Ls swap question
I am thinking about doing the LS swap on my 84 stepside. I want to use the original gas tank LOCATION, does anyone know of a place that makes factory tanks with the fuel pumps required to get the 58psi pressure to get the motor to run correctly? Or what the best fuel pump to buy would be. I am thinking of using the 87 tank. I am open to all suggestions and opinions.

Re: Ls swap question
I've heard of that option but am curious to know as well.

Re: Ls swap question
Use a 1987 tank, 1987 sender and Delco/Delphi EP381 pump. Use the corvette fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. This is what I'm running on my 85 with a 4.8.

make sure you don't cheap out on the pump only buy genuine delco or delphi. do it one time! to make the search easier on the fuel filter, just look up one for a 2005 corvette.

Re: Ls swap question
If you're doing a stock swap, then yes, that way will work. For a lot of power though, the Corvette filter/regulator is a restriction and the Delco/Delphi pumps don't flow enough. And it's not the easiest at all.

Re: Ls swap question
Good question. I am going to be running into the same thing shortly. Although my issue is that I had already bought new tanks and senders for my 85 before making the final decision to go LS. I am looking at a 5.3l and would like to be able to use both tanks. I was planning on doing a cam and headers with tune so not sure how or what I am going to do from here.

Re: Ls swap question
I believe the sender and tank from a 87 and a ac delco ep381 would work.

Re: Ls swap question
I used the stock tank, added an in line low pressure side filter, an external pump from Amazon rated at 255 LPH (cost $45). Stock type replacement 3/8 anf 5/16 steel hard lines that I bent to run up the firewall and compression fittings to the stubbed out 2001 rails and stock 2001 fuel pressure regulator.

Re: Ls swap question
I appreciate all the responses. I think I will get the 87 tank and go from there.

Re: Ls swap question
I am going with the 87 tank as well for my swap. The reason is the sump in the tank for fuel injection will work well in my 5.3 swap.
Just in case anyone else wants to know why the 87 tank is good for this purpose, I got a real good picture of the sump looking through the filler neck opening. Kinda looks like a baking pan for bread. Looking down through the sender opening, you can see two holes in the bottom that lets fuel into the sump. Found mine (20 Gallon for a long bed) on eBay for just under $75 with free shipping. Just do a search and look for the best price. I got mine from am-autoparts.

Re: Ls swap question
Does the Delco EP381 pump, make the 58psi that you need for the LS? Just want to verify.

Re: Ls swap question
Read my 87 LS build, or Glock's or Dennis's....all questions are answered in these and among all the other LS build threads if you do some digging.
