It's either been converted or it's a 71 or newer truck.

Possibility with the big block if it was manufactured late in the year may have had it.....but never saw or heard of any.

I'll stick by my statement. It's either been converted or it's newer than a 70.

And since there were hardly any big block short step trucks, i wonder if the whole truck isn't a custom job.
Either way, a short step is cool enough...throw a big block in it and you have the super sweet set up there. |

I found a pic of a 5 lug drum in my 1970 truck service manual. For anyone that has a manual like mine, it's in the brake section on page 5-20. Here it is:

A big block 5 lug short step 70 model would be gay. See my signature for the irony of that. Robertrustbkt- look close. That's some left over picture from back in Daniel Boone days or something. That is a straight axle, which was last used in what 1959 or so?

They never made a 70 5 lug truck. That said, you never know I guess... I've seen stranger things. I wouldn't be suprised if it was converted, or the person is just counting them wrong! Either way, its a BB short Step! who cares if its original!

My 70 short step has 5 lug on one side 6 lug on the other side! Hopefully by tomorrow I will have finished the conversion and have 5 lug disc on both sides!! It is an ECE dropped spindle/disc setup. Couldnt be easier unless someone else did it for me! Everything is supplied but the grease and brake fluid.

TXFirefighter,
OK, now I see it. That's like one of those kingpin front ends. My Granddad has one of those at his house. He thinks it's from an old late 30's/early 40's Chevrolet 1/2 ton. Still has the brake shoes, wheel cylinder, etc installed on it.
