Rear shock mounts broken
I'm hoping this isn't REAL bad, but I have noticed my passenger side shock mount that is supposed to be riveted to the frame is loose. It was bad enough, that every time I would drive the truck you could hear this piece smacking the frame in corners.
Yesterday I crawled under and thought I'd remove the shock absorber, and try and put new bolts in it. With less than half a turn, the shock mount bolt broke right off! How do you repair something like this? Grinding out rivets and rebolting I can handle, now I have a bad shock mount location. You can also see on my driver side, the mount there is bent down and it's only a matter of time until this side needs replacing too. Anyone know of a vender that has frame parts like this, or advice on how to fix it? |

I have yet to replace my rear shocks, but when I rebuilt my front suspension I bought new shocks from either Advanced or Autozone and the shocks came with new mounting bolts. I'm assuming the rear would be the same way. Are those shocks coil over aftermarkets or something? Are they supposed to help with hualing loads? The mounts may have been bent due to the load from the coil-over shocks.

Is it a stud? Or a bolt?
Mine are bolted on. I would grind those rivets loose and bolt the mount in place. While you have the mount off, replace the mounting bolt/stud. Then get rid of those shocks, I bet the other side's loose, too! |

I thought these shocks were original to the truck... is it uncommon to have coil over shocks on the rear? They sure look original to me, anyone have a pic of a 2wd leaf spring 3/4 ton rear so I can see what others have for shocks?

Anytime I've seen those shocks have been when the rear springs are giving out and someone wanted to lift the rear end skyward. I think they put a wee bit of stress on the mounts and break them off. |
