"The truck man's truck engine" with "traditional virtues". The engine was a fleet favorite at UPS in tough stop and go delivery work before they went diesel in the 90's.

Wow, 280 ft/lbs is pretty good nice. If my truck came with a 292 i wouldn't swap it out

The 292 will taken out of the C60 I've bought and be going into the K10 project. When I was researching modifying my 250, the word was to treat the 292 like a Big Block.

283=3" stroke,327= 3 1/4" stroke, 396=3 3/4" stroke,454=4.0" stroke. 292=4 1/8" stroke. The 292 is the original "stroker engine".

Switch the head from a 194 it's like a closed chamber head and you will up the compression ratio. Pertronix for the distributer for original look with a hotter spark. Iridium plugs. 8mm wires, Remove the oil bath guts and find a K&N filter with an adapter if necessary and install it in the stock air cleaner assembly. What else without machining or loosing originality?

Don't expect to spin it too much. Long stroke = high piston velocity for a given rpm = large loads on main bearings, rod bearings, and rod bolts.

Thanks for the info..
I just purchased my first 1966 C20 Chevy truck and my first 292. So far (after power wash) the engine is showing the leaks. I have a rear main, pan, distributor, oil leaks. The carb needs rebuilt and the exhaust manifolds leak. Not but for a original engine! I am working on making it a daily driver. |
