Found an untouched 72 GMC...

Sat in a barn since '84. The old man had died that owned it and his family stuck it in the barn. straight truck, rockers are rusted, along with the front side of the bed floor and the lower right front bed panel. Factory 350, AC, PS, PB, loaded. Very good shape, factory paint. Seat looks to be in perfect condition and is showing 47,000. Hasn't ran since 1984, when it was parked. I can get it for $1500. I'm sorry, I can't remember to take a camera with me when I go look at trucks.

It seems like a pretty good deal to me...any input?

Yeah, I've decided to buy it, but I'm having surgery this morning and won't be able to get back over there for a few days. So be patient for pics!

Re: Found an untouched 72 GMC...

If you didn't buy it one of us would. It's probably a virgin in all the ways that count. I'll take rust over triple hacked wiring and even over bad bodywork. At least the truck will be honest with you...

Sounds like a great find.

Now get us some pics and good luck with surgery!

Re: Found an untouched 72 GMC...

As soon as I am able to get around, I'm taking it. I've known the guy all of my life that has it now and bought it from the old man's family. He's holding it for me.

Bowtie, the wiring is one of the things that I love most about this truck. Everyone around here has rigged the wiring in these trucks, and this looks untouched. Still has the factory radio.

I had a tonsellectomy...

Re: Found an untouched 72 GMC...

I'm sure there are some parts which would be in good condition as far as wear is concerned, but if it was me I'd want to talk to the sellers about the possibility that after 23 years just sitting there that the engine might be seized, all the seals in the trans (is it auto?) might be hard and cracked, all the brake system will need to be replaced, booster, master cylinder, slave cylinders, new tires, hoses, belts, valve seals, carb rebuilt, etc etc.
>>If it was me I'd get it for considerably less than what they're asking.

Well, I drug it home. After seeing it in the light, its more rusty than I thought, but oh well. There's been worse! I still think I did good. Looks alot better after cleaning it up.

Maybe I can get the pics to work...

Re: Found an untouched 72 GMC...

Yeah, my towbar had a dangerous angle problem. Luckily it was just a 10 mile trip home lol. It jumped off as I came into my steep driveway. Dented my license plate. Oh well.
