New Belts Still Squeals

Ive changed the belts on my truck and I still hear a squeal in mid-rpm ranges. This happens while drive and also while stopped with the truck in park. Is it safe to rule out the U-joints since the truck is still squealing in park while pressing the gas?

Have you tried flipping the belt around?

A long time ago, I had a Buick piece of junk car and the belt was squealing during startup and acceleration. Once it warmed up, it would only squeal during hard acceleration. I changed the belt and still got the squeal sometimes. A mechanic friend of mine told me that sometimes the pulleys get worn out and widen, causing the squeal. If any of your pulleys are older, that might be the issue. Also check to make sure they are all lined up, especially the power steering pump. Mine was out of whack on my 67, the bracket was bent (along with everything else!).

1. Look for worn or broken pulleys or pulley brackets
2. Check for proper Pulley alignment
3. Make sure belt tension is correct

If possible have a friend rev the engine to the point where you hear belt squeal while you do a visual inspection under the hood, this may help to reveal more info about your problem. Just keep the hands and loose clothing clear of moving parts, good luck.

Hold a bar of soap on the belt while it is running. If the belt is the problem, this will soften it up and help.
