Free big blocks rock!
Not talking about another Caddy mill...I got a 396/402 from work the other day...for free! The boss man got sick of looking at it and told me to make it go bye bye.
While it isn't a complete engine, all the important stuff is there... crank, flywheel, 8 rods & pistons, all tin, bearing caps, and some other little bs. The bore looks good....real good. You can't even catch a finger nail on the ridge. This whole big block thing is making me re-consider selling the short bed again...a big block shortie is cool no matter how turd-like it is. |

Actually it is the 4th 400 or bigger. I had a couple 400's that I aquired with no cash exchainging hands...well, I did give a blown up 350 for one, but it was in a truck that I bought...
So maybe 3.5 engines for free? |

At least I had help getting the engine down there...I've never been so lucky. I had to tote a stripped 400 small block about 100 feet...3 times. Never put it down either. I figure if you put it down, you have to pick it back up...tham means more pain.
I took a TH400 super long shaft into the basement last year...only help i got was the wife holding the door. <friggen ouch> |

Forgot to list that it came with complete heads too.
Are the numbers on heads the same as small blocks? As in blah blah blah "882"? |

The High Performance heads had rectangular exhaust ports with closed chambers... Most had oval ports. |

Yeah, i think mine are oval. I've heard the term thrown around, but frankly never paid attention.
We are talking intake ports here....right? |

It'll be in between the springs, most likely a 7 digit number starting with 3....
