weird generator light

my generator light is coming on at idle, when the rpms increase to like 1000 or 1500 the light goes out. the light will also come on when i turn the headlights on or turn the heat on high. i did the internal regulated alternator conversion about a year ago with no problems. the alt is from 1982 caprice, battery is old, 12.5 volts engine off, 15.4 at 3000 rpm (isnt this to high?) what could be causing this, every thing else seems fine. thanks in advance

Re: weird generator light

If you were to check it at idle, it is probably low.
Either way, that 15 is too much... replace the regulator if you are handy/capable... the whole alt if you aren't.
