What color is RED, anyway?

I got swatches from SMS of the red material for '69. All I asked for was a sample of the red vinyl. I got three vinyl swatches, all red, but they vary from a brighter red to a dark, almost maroon, red. I also got a swatch of red cloth, but I'm not doing cloth.

So, my question is this: What color red vinyl is correct? Is it a brighter color or is it darker?

It's like having two watches....you can't tell what time it is, if they are different.

Re: What color is RED, anyway?

There are about a zillion different reds. I ordered red carpet for my truck one time and when it got here it was so orange I boxed it up and sent it right back.

Re: What color is RED, anyway?

I just finished putting a red interior in my 68. I would say the brighter red is more correct as that's what I went with and I ordered the "original" red houndstooth. hope this helps

Re: What color is RED, anyway?

yeah, that's what I am thinking, too. I only asked for the red vinyl that the trucks used for '69, and they went beyond that request. I ain't fussin', just wonderin' which one is more correct. If you look at the red cloth (which isn't houndstooth), there is a portion which looks good with the lighter, brighter color. Then again, there's a portion that looks good with the darker colored vinyl.

Life is good.

Re: What color is RED, anyway?

I have a '70 that has bright red vinyl seats, arem rests and seat belts, but has a dark red dash and steering wheel. I have '69 that has dark red vinyl on everything. Both are unmolested factory trucks. I can't find a listing that shows 2 different red interiors, but they came that way for some reason . The first pic is of the '70 and the last 2 are the dark red factory bucket seats and door panels in the '69 CST. Both trucks are medium red with red vinyl trim according to the SPID. The '69 CST has white top and body side trim and the '70 is plain jane. I don't know if that has any bearing though...

Re: What color is RED, anyway?

Thanks for the feedback. My reason for the samples is to give a place in L.A. a color reference to create the colorants to change colors on a leather seat that I am going to install. I say "colorants" because they said it isn't a dye, but a finish. They need a reference color and I want to be sure I am not going to use the wrong color for future needs, like door panels, dash pads, etc.

Guess I should go ahead and get the door panels and match them to the swatch. If the dash pad is a shade darker, so be it. I don't think the shade variation will be detrimental.

That's what I'd do since the seats and the door panels are closest together.
