OK...why do we have kick vents?

I am thinking of welding the top of mine shut (below cowl), covering the place where they are penetrating the cab (opening with door by your feet) and then putting speakers in that boxy type of area.

It would be sealed form the elements (leaves rain etc)

I rarely open mine. I use the vents in the winter and summer and run the A/C in the winter...

I have stock A/C....and I know that the passenger vent is supposed to open when the A/C is on to bring fresh air in.

Am I way off on this one?

I use mine about 9 months a year here. They work great to direct a cool breeze up the legs of my shorts.

I agree! I use mine alot, (I don't have air conditioning) I like that the vents bring in freah air up high, & the kick panel vents let in fresh air without having the window down & blowing on your face or the noise assoiciated with it.

I think the primary use for them is to collect leaves and other debris to promote rust in your cab.

*sigh* I need to do something about that before too long.

Actually, it does get a good breeze going through the cab, especially with the sliding rear window.

I use mine alot. My trucks are non a/c, hopefully someday tho---, and they never spent any long periods of time sitting under trees, so no rust so far in that area.
Any way if that will work best for your purposes, do it man! Nobody is gonna
throw you out of the forums(I think?).

Mine are open 24/7 - If your's don't do it for you, do what does.

I would pressure cook with them sealed up, now that I have a nice heat absorptive black top on.

I read an article years ago, (CCT, I think) where the owner used the space to install a power antenna.

the leaves aren't getting in there from the kick vents ... they are getting there from the cowl ... once you weld them up how are you gonna clean them out?

I was going to ask the same question. Unless you seal off your cowl area, you are asking for trouble down the road.

I have an A/C truck, but I love my driver side vent and I've always used kick vents and wing windows over A/C (Unless its REALLY hot or the woman is with me). Then again, I prolly use them more because I'm a smoker (I'm a joker, I'm a midnight toker.... I play my music in the sun......) PLuz I fart alot and fresh air is a welcome addition.

I use mine all the time. I wish someone made good replacement gaskets. The ones I got barely lasted a few months. I agree that if you seal them up that the leaves will probably get stuck in the cowl and really make some rust.

i have to leave mine, otherwise my door wont close all the way without from brute force cuz the cab is pretty sealed

Doesn't the 72's have a vent in the door jams just for that reason?

I use my driver side a lot. My wife opened the passenger side once and the cab filled with pine needles. I don't know if the vent had ever been opened. It took an hour to vacuum out the cab after that.
