I give up, well maybe
I think I am going to have to pull the plug on ye old farmtruckIII, I got the 454 transplanted, the headers to work, wiring mostly fixed, and now for some reason it seems as if the engine is not centered. The drive line angle is off center I can't tell if it is the frame or if it is my home made motor swap kit, or maybe I am just dumb. So do you guys think I should keep going or throw in the towel?

Modifications can stump you. But,don`t give up.You can always get the correct towers a give up on your first attempt. There`s no reason you can`t get this done. And,good luck.I`d drop by and lend a hand, but I`d need some gas money.

Re: I give up, well maybe
You don't look like the quittin kind. Walk away for a day or two and get your head on straight then go back and find and fix the problem. If you know that you built a mount or cross member check there first. But you can use reference points and check to see if the frame is square or maybe tweaked a little. That truck is way to close to being done and one nice ride. I hope you are going back with that color you don't see it that much anymore.

Re: I give up, well maybe
Luckily it rained today so that gives me a day away from it. I am going to loosen the frame stands and use my port-a-power and try to square things up a bit, we'll see how that goes. If I pull the plug looks like there may be a few homes for it lol..........$$$$$$........no not yet.

Re: I give up, well maybe
You may want to take some measurments on the backside of the transmission and see if it is centered? Most of the tranny mounts I have seen are adjustable. Does it look like your engine mounts are torqued or not setting even? It may be you just have to center the Tranny Mount. I know you have probably looked at all this but I had a similar problem in my 57 Bigwindow Shortstep and I just had to tweek the tranny a bit. Wish you the best of luck on your problem and dont listen to these guys trying to help you out by taking it off your hands (I will do that). GOOD LUCK.

Re: I give up, well maybe
This is what I am gonna do, I am going to loosen the frame stands and trans mount, put my port-a-power between the frame rail and trans and see if it can be moved over a wee bit. I took measurements today and it is 2.5" too far over to the right. If that does not do the trick it will be sold to the highest bidder, please don't lock this thread as I don't really want to sell.

so is it the frame that is off as you state it is too far over to the right... If it is the frame then find another one. OF course I have one or two Id sell ya or heck might be willing to practically give if you'd help pull the body off of it. Dont give up... Just look at it from a differnt angle and solutions will follow. If you catch a gopher you have to think like one.

Re: I give up, well maybe
From this picture it doesn't look too bad. What exactly is the problem? What frame stands are you using? Are the headers for this application? It looks like it may up to high, which could be giving you some problems.

Re: I give up, well maybe
I used the small block stands, but swapped them side to side to set the motor back as far as possible. I might have messed up doing that, but most of the old timers I have talked to say the SB mounts will work, and I probably messed up by switching them. If I would not have switched then the headers would not have worked. I agree the motor is a bit high, but high and far back is old school for wieght transfer. Brothers makes a set of tubular mounts has any one used those before?

Re: I give up, well maybe
You can use the small block frame mount with the small block motor mount, but why would you put the left on the right and vica versa, that will put the feet forward and really mess stuff up? Put the mounts in their respective places, put manifolds on it and move on. I have done this before using SBC mounts to put BBC in and they fall into place if you leave the mounts in the same location and orientation. Old school or not, it is not working for you, so move on, swap and drive!! Ever heard an old timer tell you used to do this or that on his hemi powered monza, take it with a grain of salt and ask around if it is a legit way others will have heard of it and if it is an urban legend, then at least you won't have spent hours or days trying it only to be in the predicament you are currently in. Good luck and try providing picts of the motor mounts from the top and botoom, DO NOT USE THE PORTA POWER UNTILL YOU ARE SURE YOU ARE "FIXING IT" and NOT BREAKING IT WORSE!!
