Re: Debating.....
You can pay for a lot of parts, upgrades, restoration, gas, and fun for $500 a month. And with a 1965 you can learn to fix everything that could go wrong yourself.

Re: Debating.....
c'mon now - the guy's 19... I can't believe nobody has asked yet...
IS the chev dependable (even though it runs fantastically)? What are your mechanical skills? Saving $500/month and driving what you want are great things - but if you're 19 and possibly just graduated, maybe headed to college or starting a career, etc, or whatever in the near future - dependability. Now I'd much rather drive my ol truck than a mazda, but then again, I also want to get to work/school or whatever it is I have to do. If you want to learn how to work on the truck - as much as I HATE to say this - sometimes the daily driver is not an option. My truck is dependable as well - but I am guessing that the vast majority of the folks on here have "other" vehicles available as back-up, regardless of whether or not they drive their trucks or not every day. I am only saying this because I did what everyone else is telling you to do. And I missed my first 4 days of work on a new job - an engineering job just across the state line and almost lost that job - as much as we love our trucks, we also to bring home the bacon. If you work 3 blocks from your house and can walk as a backup or your folks will loan you a vehicle if you get in a bind - by all means, go for it. But if you have only ONE vehicle and no other options, you may want to think twice. For what it's worth, I HATED getting a "responsible" car - but it got me thru college and, at the same time, I was able to tear my 57 down to the bare frame almost and really do some "learnin". Stuff I could not do when I had to drive it to work and school every day. Just playing devil's advocate.... look before you lean, all that crap. |

Re: Debating.....
brandon it all boils down to what you mechanical skills are and condition of the truck to start with and your future plans...when I was your age my third car I kept for almost 9 years, thru college, raced almost every week, got married an took it on our honey moon, drove it to and from work, then decided I needed a truck swapped it for my first `65 bbw sb...the rest is just fuzzy.

Re: Debating.....
Just actually graduated from community college with my accoiates degree. I do live pretty close to work and school. I definately need/want to learn the ins and outs of all cars espically the c20. Ive had my fair share of VW bug problems, but this is my first chevy truck....ill probably keep the mazda (parked) and cruise around with the chev. Im taking the chevy on vacation next month about 5 hours away. My plans are to do an off frame resto eventually. So far Ive put the early classic enterprise 2/4 drop...have the 2 inch lowering blocks for the rear waiting for me to install them...notch. Ive also put full power steering and got rid of the stock 4:10 rear end and put a 3:73 1 ton coorporate rear end in....it drives really nice. next thing will be 8 lug disks from the same 1 ton coorporate truck, drop spindles up front. THe first picture was the day I bought it. I lowered it the next week thats the second picture . I got all the other work done. I just put the rear bumper on last week and got bored yesterday and primered it. the gray is the most recent.

Re: Debating.....
Good thinkin', Brandon.
Good idea on furthering your education, too.....especially on the C20. Does that vacation possibly include some camping...? I'm sure the ol' girl would love to haul some camping gear (and Happy Campers) again. There's no doubt that she's done it before. Sounds like a blast. Truck looks good. BTW: Are those original Cali' plates....? .........Nice.

Re: Debating.....
You are in the same boat I am in. I have a 2005 mustang gt that Ive done alot of work too. Its fast, looks good, and gets awesome fuel milage. But is costing me about 500 a month with payment and insurance. I am thinking of selling it as well and getting back to what I love most, which is old cars and trucks. I am 24 btw, not much older. Good to see im not the only one who is getting addicted to these trucks!
