Another power steering question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Swapping in Power Steering Here soon. Do I need to change the Idler Arm as well as the pitman arm? Doing some searches I hear both ways.

In a 69 btw.

That is a very good question you have risen I have no answer , at fisrt thought I would say no but then after thinking about it it is a definte maybe. So when I get back to my shop I am gonna measure both to see the answer for myself. I will look for this post went I get back wiith the numbers and post the answer so that it can help anyone needing the sameinformation later in their build. Jim

I didn't and it seems to be fine.I know the alignment is good and that didn't change from before to after.I used the 68 pitman arm since I had 68 suspension.

My memory is fuzzy but it seems that there was one that I had to change. IIIRC there was diffence in length. Best thing to do is to get a pitman arm puller and remove both and compare.

The LMC catalog has the Idler Arm listed for 67-72. Now the Pitman Arm is listed 67-68, 69-72, and Pitman Arm-W/PS 67-72 so there are different part #'s for the Pitman Arm.

To clarify my response. I had to change the pitman arm, but not the idler arm.
