Cluster stuck on 66 c10--how to get it out?

I have followed every step, disconnected everything back behind the cluster, oil pressure speedo cable and all.

I have followed all steps in this article and it just will not come out.

Anyone run into this before?

Did you remove your headlight switch, ignition switch etc.?

IIRC I had to loosen my steering column a little to get a little more clearance as well.

Re: Cluster stuck on 66 c10--how to get it out?

Yep got all of the switches off, cig lighter, all of it and the bezel screws.

I did just a moment ago get it out, it was stuck at the base where the seams of the cluster were just tall enough to hang up. Took a screwdriver and placed it in each spot where it was getting hung up and and pried it up over the dash metal lip where it was getting hung up.

Now I think I need a new speedo cable cause when I disconnected it these 2 pieces fell out. Shouldn't these be attached?

I was trying earlier to test the speedo cable by disconnecting at the trans and hooked it up to a drill and ran the drill in reverse and the cable backed its way out of the sleeve.

A pic at the trans

And this is what happened to the cable when I tried to do the drill test

So is this a new cable only to fix?
The speedo has been inoperative for years, trying to fix it.

You have to remove the ignition, wiper and headlight switch and it should come out.
