Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

I'm looking for a few original acorn cap nuts which were used to attach the original 67-70 round side view mirror heads. I have my originals but they have been painted over so I'm looking for nice originals that are still the original clear zinc finish, also, not rusted or all nicked up by adjustable wrenches.

All of the nuts I've found online are smooth round (no crown) or high crown which is why I'm looking for originals.

The nuts are 7/16" with 1/4"-28 (fine) threads. Here's a pic of my original (painted gold) nut and a pic I found online to show one in the condition I'm looking for.

Re: Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

Sure, if you've got some nice originals I'd be interested in them. Mine are nice (no dinged edges) but I'm trying to find unpainted ones. Thanks!

Re: Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

Side profile. Is this the crown you’re looking for, or is this what’s you’re calling smooth?

Re: Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

That’s what the websites I ran across were referring to as “smooth”. I’m looking for ones with an identical profile to my originals. They seem to be most often called “low crown”. There are also “high crown” versions with a taller, pointier head. Also, hoping to find them with less of a polished look.

Re: Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

I likely threw my originals out with the used up mirrors.
I understand you want identical.
Will need some measurement. Like total height and depth of the hex and the hex size.
If you find too shinny it's easy to dull them down in a shaker or tumbler for shells.

I could make you a couple but the finish would be raw steel. Not ideal.
Cheers

From the mcmaster.com site.

Re: Looking for Original Acorn Cap Nuts from Factory Round Mirrors

Found some.

1. Off a NOS 3960511 mirror (assume it's correct)
2. Modern Replacement (slightly shorter than other two but has acorn shape instead of smooth rounded top. Shoulder height looks the same as the painted one. I'd imagine GM had multiple sources for this nut over the lifecycle of these trucks)
3. Off my truck (assume it's original but painted)
