68 C20 to 73-87 C10 front suspension

Is it feasible to swap the entire front crossmember/suspension from a 73-87 C10 into a 68 C20 (yes, I would change the rear to match)? Has anyone done it? Was considering doing a LWB to SWB conversion and this seemed like a natural progression.

I thought there was a thread on the different conversions but couldn't find it.

Thanks for the help.

Yes you can I believe 2 holes do not line up completely so you will have to oval them. Also here is the thread I believe you were thinking of made my member Lolife99 it's a sticky over in the suspension forum. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=444823

Leave the 68 crossmember.
Just clean, inspect, and rebuild the C10 parts,... and swap them over.

Re: 68 C20 to 73-87 C10 front suspension

LoLife,

In reading your conversion FAQ, it says the spindles can be swapped onto older A-arms with new ball joints and tie rod ends.

Will the newer 73 and up style C10 spindles bolt onto my 68 C20 A-arms, or will I need the C10 arms? If I need the C10 arms, can I swap the entire A arm set-u off of a 73 and up C10 onto my 68 C20 crossmember?

Thanks again

They will the upper arms, with a balljoint change.
The C20 lower arms have a bigger balljoint hole than the C10 version.
So you would need a C10 lower a-arm with the correct C10 balljoint for your spindle.

Will I need the C10 arms?
The lower arm for sure.

If I need the C10 arms, can I swap the entire A arm set-u off of a 73 and up C10 onto my 68 C20 crossmember?
YES.
That's what I would do.
You will need all the matching C10 steering components, to make this an easy swap.

Thanks again
Hope this helps^^^.

Re: 68 C20 to 73-87 C10 front suspension

Go with the later bushed A-arms. Better ride, easy to build. Lolife is spot-on. Definitely grab the whole late steering assy. At least the center piece. Just did all this to my dads 70using the 70 member. Thanks again for the extermely helpful write up lolife! Easy peasy. If you can get the brake lines, put the 73-up lines in the oval hole in front of the xmember, and use the late hoses. MUCH cheaper and easier to source, plus the combo valve goes down on the frame out of sight. Good luck!
