Thumbs up Chucks SWB Fleetside

I got the itch to start another project and started looking for some parts. I first found a frame for sale by a member and he also had a bed that had been part of his project so I got that too. I got Mike (fine 69) to bring it to me along with a cab that I bought from him. It came from AZ.
As for the plan for the truck I am still undecided on what front clip I want to put on it. It is going to look like a stripped down truck with somethings hidden. The cab is a 68 GMC. I'm not sure if I'm going that route yet. It is a very good cab with almost no rust just surface rust. The top of the roof has the paint worn off down to the brown primer as does some spots on the pillars and doors. The cab has a high hump so I won't have any issues with the 454.
The frame has a 73 and up front end on it and a 5 lug rear also. I haven't taken the cover off yet.
The bed consists of new bedsides and a nice tailgate and a headgate that I may or may not use..Haven't decided yet. It also has cross sills for a wood bed. I also have some stainless steel bedstrips coming from Dave that were left behind.
Heres some pics. I'll get more up asap.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I took the windshield out and only found this surface rust and the seam sealer was dried out.

Really solid looking cab! Heck all of it looks solid! I had the pleasure of driving through AZ in the summer. Man, there were rust free trucks all over. they just keep putting drivetrains in them and keep driving them. Crazy!

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

If anybody is looking to do a project and doesn't want rust you almost have to get one from out west. I am not used to having a cab sitting on rockers. Mine have always been too weak.
I cleaned some on the frame. It looks like the frame had been blasted at some point and partially primed. The frontend looks to have been cleaned and painted.

Thanks Guys. I want to do this truck with as many rust limited parts as possible. I have another parts truck coming tomorrow so I won't get much done on this one this weekend.

Between the cab and bed it's almost like cheating on a test!

My vote is for "68 Chevrolet clip" You already have the tailgate!

thanks guys, I almost want to make it a GMC but I'm more of a Chevy guy. I have one with a 68 clip on it already. I have a 70 showing up tomorrow for parts so I'll check that out.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Thanks for all the comments guys. I hope this one turns out nice. I did find a radio delete the other day and popped it in to see how it fit. They fit really tight with those factory clips. I will have some tunes in it though. I can't sing good enough to keep myself entertained.

I got an early Christmas present from my wife. Now I can blast the frame and my bed cross sills. Also the bottom of the cab too. I wish it would warm up some though.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I put this thing together so I could regroup and have some room. Its just loosely put together. I don't think I'm going to use the front clip. I would like to find a 68 GMC clip. I'll keep looking.
