opinion on Impala SS rims
I have a chance to get a set of 96 Impala 17x8.5" rims with 5.125" backspacing (I think) and 255/55/17 tires for a good price. They will be going on a 71 C-10 Longbed. I plan on lowering the truck a few inches at some point. I started searching for pictures and found a few. If anyone has any pics of the Impala wheels, please post them. Also, what is everyones opinion on this setup? Will it rub anywhere? Will I need spacers? Just looking for some info. Thanks.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
Shannon,
Be careful. That might be a bit too much backspacing. Most of these trucks need 3.75" to 4.5" of backspacing depending on the year and how low you go. That much backspacing 5" plus might rub at stock height. 71-72's are a little wider in track both front and rear than the earlier years but I would still want to test-fit the wheels on my truck before any money changed hands. Just my 2 cents!

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
Agreed.Maybe someone will chime in that`s dealt with them or other newer-design wheels on these trucks. There`s always spacers.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
There are several members on here who have those exact same Impala wheels on these old trucks. I'm sure you could send any of them a PM and they'd advise you of the exact details and fitment issues the encountered.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
Here is a pic of the wheel but the ones that came off the Impala's were only 16" Of course they are aftermarket wheels and they can be had in 17".

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
Yeah, I'll have to try PMing some of the people who have them. I like to do my research and get different opinions. The big unknown right now is how they will fit once I lower it. I have a 90 S-10 that is bagged and laying frame on 19's. I had to do a lot of calculations to get the tires to tuck inside the fenders. I got the 71 as a work truck but my addiction to customizing it has gotten the better of me. You can check out some pics of the S-10 on our club website - www.diverserides.com
Thanks, Shannon |

Yellow69 has them on his truck, if my brain is working correctly.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
The sticky thread on wheels and tires has a pic of a truck with these wheels and they were available in 17 inch versions from the factory on big body impalas.

I have these wheels for my truck in the 17 inch version. You can still order these through the local chevy dealer.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
No, I don't have them on my truck. But here's a pic that I have of a board members truck. I think it's mcmxlc or something like that. It's a roman numeral.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
Thanks for posting the pictures, I really like the way they look on these trucks. I'll have to look into the possible backspacing problems but I think for the price, it's a good deal and the 255/55/17's are a little less tall than stock so that should give me a little more clearance. The truck currently has 235/75/15's up front and 275/60/15's in the rear. I did put the 275's up front once to see what the wider tires would look like and they didn't rub. Its hard to say though once I lower it. All I can do is drop it and see.

Re: opinion on Impala SS rims
No you weren't losing your mind. I just decided to go with my 20's. I sold these to a board member. I can't remember his name. These were Boyd's, but looked a lot like the Impala wheels.
