someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

well, i have always gotten offers on my truck, but im very attached to her, and none of them have been good to get my attention of even thinking about getting rid of her, but yesterday, wow, this kid came from welding class, and he took a big liking to my truck, asked if id get rid of her, and i said, i dont know, im attached, but if the right offer came along, i could be persuaded, his response was, what about a 72 GTO? tell me more....
turns out he has a 1972 Pontiac GTO, it is a FULL options car, has a 400, with ORIGINAL m22 muncie 4 speed, and posi rearend, has been rebuilt and has headers, car was originally silver, interior is in immaculate shape (it is extremly dirty, but with a good cleaning it will freshen up nicely!) has full power, even the quarter glass is power (never knew they had that) and also the driver seat is power! (another suprise to me) it has the original ram air hood as well, i looked in around and amazingly the rust is to a minimum, theres lots of bondo, but from what i can see, its just hiding dents that never got pulled...the kid does NOT know what he has, and i took all the numbers that i could find, and it is a #'s matching car..i need someone in here to tell me im crazy, do i need to get set straight?? or is this a deal!

GTO's Hmmmm. I had a '70 GTO Judge with a 455 in it. Muncie 4 speed, Hurst shifter. Had it for 13 years, man would it light up those tires. Ah, the good 'ol days...

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

72 was just shy of a glory days though. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice car and I wouldn't mind driving one, but I wouldn't go as crazy for one as I would a 64-70.

Your best bet is to find out exactly what that car is worth in its current condition, then find out how much your truck is worth in it's current state. From there you should be able to get an idea of whether or not it's a good deal.

Then again, your truck may be worth much more to you than market value. If you've put your own personal touches on it and spent long hours making it yours, then you have to consider that as part of the price too.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

DO IT...I hate to burst everyones bubble on here but our squarebodies are a dime a dozen unless you have something really rare or unusual, like my x-cab, and even those are not too expensive. GTO's on the other hand are getting pretty tough to come by.

I would have driven it home on the spot.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

I'd traded him.... after I had extensively checked the car. If you do decide to trade, check for hidden crash damage and improperly repaired rusted areas.

Square bodies are plentiful and can be easily upgraded to your specs. GTOs (even early 70's) are increasingly rare and will continue to grow in value....though slower with this economy.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

Damn idk I think I would trade him just because square bodies are so much easier to find and a lot cheaper most of the time. Did you get any pics of the GTO yet?

You could get it, fix it up right. Then when your done playing. Buy another square and use the rest of the money from the sale to make That one right!

I dunno...I like GTOs especially the years they stacked the headlights but if you've but if the truck is really special to you I understand that too. Tough call.

I'd trade him if its not a cloned Lemans. In 72 GTO didn't use the 242### VIN so you have to be careful.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

I dont know man. I love my truck and it would take alot more than a GTO thats full of mud and rust to get me to trade. Now a 70 Chevelle SS would be a different story though.

Not true my friend . Squares are increasing in value every day and some have been modded to a point that they would sell for more than even a restored 72 GTO.

Re: someones trying to get me out of the square body club!

Though call. But I think you need to ask yourself, if you had the GTO and liked the truck...would you trade it? Is there anything you are missing on the GTO? I know you have time and money and heart invested in the truck but I know how tough it can be to keep yourself from just grabbing up something different.
