Need a little advice, Windshield

A little background, I bought a new windshield from Pilkington a couple of years ago and tried to install it myself and just couldn't get it to go in. Finally broke down and took it to a glass shop for them to install and they can't get it to go in either!! They shaved a 1/4 inch off the top and still no joy. They even ordered in a new one just to compare and they are identical.
The top of the glass just won't sit down in the groove once you pull the gasket into where its supposed to be inside.

I'm thinking that when I rebuilt the frame, I tweaked it a little bit and its a touch smaller than original, or I got the angles off a little bit.

I think that if I remove it, its just sitting in there loose right now, and try to work the lip forward a bit with channel locks, pliers, whatnot, it will eventually fall into place. I'll just be real careful not to warp it too much.

Sorry for the long post, just looking to see if anyone else had had an issue like this before or if there was something else you thought I should try first.

Sounds like to me that your windshield opening is too small. We just installed a new pilkinton last weak (in a 70 pickup) with a new gasket and it went in just fine. I would find another Truck or Blazer and take some carefull measurements of the windshield frame. Then cut your windshield frame and extend it whatever it takes to get to that measurement. Otherwise the windshield will not be the only problem that you have. WES

Thanks Wes, didn't think of even looking to see what my 71 measures. I'll take some measurements this weekend. Jeff.

Re: Need a little advice, Windshield

An update, I measured the 71 and compared and there was maybe an 1/8 or so difference in the height of the Blazer to it. Got Mr Channel lock out and moved the upper bead out a little and then used Mr. Grinder to even up the edges. It was a little longer on the Driver side vs the Passenger side. Haven't gotten it all the way back in yet, but will let you all know if this gets it in there.
