454 bbc thrown out!!!
hey guys to start off I was out in the garage messing around with the truck and the security guard came on by and told me that there is a motor someone had just thrown out on the side of the street I didn't believe him at first until I went over there. Motor casting numbers 10237297 says 96 and up 454 big block as I opened the heads I noticed all the gummy oily water yeah it's blown but for free I can't beat it.

Looks to be either a stationary industrial motor, or a boat motor....

When you pulled the heads, did they feel like they been off before...? If not it could have been just a blown head gasket, intake gasket, or block...

The pan is definitely a for a boat Dooley enterprises, block casting 10237297, heads casting 12562933. Had a Qjet cast intake manifold on it. I dunno, gotta check it in with a shop. hopefully not cracked or no major issues. Ready to get rid of my 283.

head bolts were nice and tight, the gasket was holding, had to pry them off, but the person who got rid of the motor, more than likely just rolled it off and more the less a huge headache relief. probably didnt drain it over the winter and I dunno.. The crank spins freely, gotta figure out where I can take it here in town.. Any good leads?

 Hopefully the block is good. You can run the factory roller cam in that block.

I beg to differ on the comment about not wanting to use a marine block. Marine blocks are made with better alloys than automotive blocks and hold up to a lot more abuse. If it is black it was probably a mercruiser engine. Run your camshaft part numbers by a Sierra or Quicksilver parts dealer.

With all the water and oil combined I didn't like the looks of the lifters so I simply broke the motor down all the way excluding the freeze plugs.. took the heads, block with caps, and pistons to the shop to get checked.. I'll see next week or so how things hold up.. All I took it in for was mag, mic, pressure test heads, check the guides and a little clean up.. Took it over to poorboys..120.. Sorry Rich couldn't beat the price.. Think Dels wanted 170ish.. But when it comes time I'll either have only 120 into the block or wasted 120 on a block.. Fingers crossed.. I think alone some of the parts I can make some money back.
