Wheel & tire size
I have a 72 longbed 2wd, front disc brakes, lowered 3 inches in front and 4 inches in the rear and would like to know what the largest wheel/tire combination would work that does not rub or what combo size looks the best? Anyone with pics? Thanks

Re: Wheel & tire size
looks best is a matter of opinion. what do you mean by biggest combo? hieght? width? i have 20 x 8.5 rims with 275-55-20 tires that are 31 inchs tall. my front is lowered 2 1/2 inchs and has room for another easy 2 inchs. keep in mind backspacing is key for large wheels and tires. i lke the tall tire because it fills the wheel well front to back as well as top. never could understand why so many wheelwells are made so long. i dont see the balance. but its just my opinion. pkj

Re: Wheel & tire size
Thanks for the info, I also want to fill the wheel opening, what size backspacing are you using? The local tire shops don't seem to know much on a 72 and i'm kinda in the dark also.

Re: Wheel & tire size
I just purchased 20x8.5 for the front and 20x10 for the rear. I am going to be running a low pro tires but the sizes are 245/35/20 and 275/30/20. My back spacing is 4" for the front and 4.5" for the rear. I am supposed to not have any rubbing or modifications to make them work. I will know soon. Good Luck. Josh

Re: Wheel & tire size
I have 285 35 22's on 9.5 in wheels w/ 6 inches of backspacing. The tires are roughly 30x11 inches. I have a 2/4 drop and the fronts fit good, for some reason the rears tuck in about 1 1/2 in. more than the front so ill need spacers to even them out. Im also considered going with a 305 40 cuz im a little nervous about overloading my low profile tires but I dont know if it will be too wide.

Re: Wheel & tire size
braggwood i am using the 07 tahoe 20 inch wheel. my backspacing was 5 1/2 inchs. i used 2 inch adapters on rear that gave me 3 1/2 inch rear backspace. on front i used 1 1/4 inch adapters that gave me 3 1/2 inch front backspacing. mt truck is a 68 and i understand the rearend is 3/4 of an inch narrower then other years (somebody please chime in on this) anyways the tires sit square each fender hangs over tire same amount. pkj

Re: Wheel & tire size
For more reference: 15x8.5", 3.75" back space. 255-60 front 275-60 rear tires. 3-5 drop, no rubbing-no bumping.
