Angry Fuel Sender Wiring

I cannot find a decent wiring diagram for a 1973 C-10 1/2 ton pickup. Well, I can find them, but none of them show what I need to know.

I need to know which wires control the fuel gauge - meaning which of the wires on the plug send the singals to the gauge itself. I'm in the process of adding new gauges, and will have to relocate all of them.

If anyone is able to help, either by telling me the colors of the wires or what position to find them in. I would much appreciate it

In the mean time here is a rough picture of just three of the gauges installed. Plan to try my best to make them look a bit better.

There is only two wires coming from the sender,1 is ground and the other is a tan wire .This should help you since GM stuck to the same colors for many years. Also,you have to match the gauge to the sender,depends on how many ohms there is at full and empty,to accurate reading.

tan is variable ground from the sending unit in the tank,

back of guage gets positive feed with key switch all the time on

Let me bust out my handy-dandy Chilton's guide.... let me see here..... It says that wire is a tan/white wire. The plain tan wire is for the oil pressure sensor. There is another tan/white but it goes to the parking brake switch so don't get them confused. Happy working on your truck!

See if this helps any. This is from teh back of teh fuel tank switch on the dash.

From the 3 o'clock position this is #1 wire then so on till #5 for reference.
#1- Ignition wire (pink w/ black stripe)
#2- Valve wire (lt. green)
#3- Tank Aux. (lt. blue)
#4- Gauge (tan)
#5- Tank Main (tan w/ white)
#6- Not used
With the ignition on you should get power with the #1 slot. If not check the pink w/black wire by following it to the fuse panel. Mine was connected with a male spade connector to a IGN slot. This way it's only powered when ignition is on (neing not running). Also you should have a light when testing for the #4 gauge as well (assuming it the #1 is hot).
