Looking at two 78 Suburban 2 wheel drives that both have a 454 and are currently running. My plan is to either drive one till it breaks down and then swap into my 69 when it's ready for engine and transmission or just park it and swap. What transmissions normally come with that year? What other parts besides those are worth keeping to transplant to the 69 if any?

Th trannys should be 400 turbos behind a big block.

Have any of you done this pulling a 454/TH400 from a burb and into a 2 wheel drive truck? Aren't these motors meant for towing? What sort of things am I going to need to pay close attention to or is it pretty straight forward?

You can use the frontend for the 5 lug/disc brake set up if you don't have a 71-72 set up.

As for the engine swap, a 454/th-400 would be no different that putting in a factory 396/402. As long as you have the correct mounts and brackets.

unless there 3/4 ton... most big blck burbs ive seen are 3/4's but if its a 1/2 t then DO IT!
