.99 cent 5.3 engine

Score one for Grumpy old man ! Now I hadn't planned a 5.3 for my '67 and still don't but while searching E-bay I found a 5.3 with exhaust manifolds and tin that had no reserve was 150 miles away and no bids on it so I bid $10.00 and won it for just .99 cents . It's good to be grumpy some days !

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

I paid for it right after the auction finished , But no reserve is no reserve ! I thought it was worth a tank of gas to pick it up just for the parts . Never list anything on E-bay without a reserve or it just might sell for .99 cents .

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

So, how many people from this forum are now going to Ebay and looking for engines for $0.99?

It's OK, you're among friends, you can admit it.

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

I hope the seller doesn't back out on you. I dropped a item I had sold when I was packaging it and ebay had an option to return the payment and cancel the sale because "item was no longer available because it was damaged, lost or stolen". Feedback was canceled, and it did not effect my score. We will see if this selller is a man of his word like the Corvett guy, nice score. Good luck.

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

no feed back? I would also pass. this could be a setup!

The set up, probably backfired on them also.

Think about this; they place the ad, you win the item, they say bring me the cash since your local, they say meet here, then jump the buyer and take the money. Sounds like a scam waiting to happen to me.

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

I've already had those thoughts ,When I Googled the address and it sits across the street from what looks like ghetto apartments and the front of the house is severely overgrown ,Maybe I'm just getting to old to take chances backing in behind a house to deal with disgruntled ignorant people for an engine I have .99 cents invested in ...and they don't want to be forthright with phone #s or names ? or even a specific time to be there ? all i got was the last email saying " I will not help you or load it and NO I don't have a lift you can use !" Kinda makes you think if it's worth the time ???

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

I think the best thing is to just pass on it or offer to pay the seller a generous "handling" to help you out. Even if you offer him $50-100 you still come ahead in this deal. Just an idea.

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

I think Aruba1 has a great idea. Offer up a price for them helping you that you feel comfortable with & see what they say, can't hurt at this point.

Also, the difference between craigslist scams & eBay scams is accountability. Cl scams can be done because someone can just go to an internet cafe and be pretty much invisible and untraceable back to them (IP address). eBay, you have to put in credit card info which traces it back to them. Albeit they could have stolen said card but that is a less likely with this type of transaction. Usually people that do that sell high end laptops, cell phone, easy light portable items. I doubt they'd use a used motor to do so.

As far as them sabotaging the motor, may have crossed their mind but they probably have not acted on it yet. If you can offer up some sort of extra cash for them helping you it may be worth it, if in fact a 5.3 is really what you want & you had the $$$ available to buy one anyway. I know it's BS to have to do but if you want the motor is it worth say a $100 or $200 "fee"?

I lived in Halls Crossroads (Knoxville) back in the late 70's early 80's and went to some far out deep woods sketchy looking places, only to be welcomed by super nice people. Just because it's a sketchy part of town does not mean the people are out to get you. Most are just trying to get by with whatever means they have. I've been had by well to do people & piss poor ones, if a person sucks they suck no matter what income level they are at.

Best thing is to walk away. When something doesn't feel right it's because it isn't.

Re: .99 cent 5.3 engine

well ... I decided to call a local towing company to go get it and hold it until I can get out there at my leisure and pick it up and theres no bs to get it done ,it will cost a couple bucks but probably the easiest way to get it done . total charges for towing service to pick it up and store for 1 week untill I can get there $40.00 can't beat that with a stick ...

Me too ! I was ready for $100.00 to do it ,but this way there is no BS to deal with ! Yeah ! a 5.3 for $40.99 I'm guessing that's way less than a core charge !
