Bed Side Hooks

I'm thinking these things may be called something else and that's why I can't find any info on the old internet.
There are about 4 J hooks (maybe fish hooks???) coming out of the bed side, both left and right side. Does anyone know whats the deal with those? Why did some trucks come with them and others did not? Looks like the majority of c10's that have been restored do not have these. I personally think they would look rad kept on there with a nice patina.

Any info you could provide would be helpful. Thank you so much! Oh, and I found some on an earlier 60' Apache and also a 64-65' C10.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

Mine had those hooks. All the years of lashing stuff down with them really took a toll on my bedsides.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

Aftermarket accessory, not sold by GMC or Chevrolet. Owner of truck would have purchased them from a supplier then had them installed.

Originally GMC and Chevrolet would have sold the purchaser Side Rails.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

I have some on my 1960.
Original owner was a carpenter, so I suspect he had them added.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

Yes, yes exactly! The photo above is exactly what I am talking about. I definitely would not doubt that this was added after, but I have seen a few with the same amount of hooks, style of hook, and position which makes me question if this was factory.

Appreciate the help guys!

Re: Bed Side Hooks

My 66 had the holes in the sides for the above hooks. I got a set of hooks of another truck from a member here and the match the holes in my truck. It may not of been a factory option but it seems the dealers had access to the same hooks.

Mine has the holes also. I would like to eventually track down some hooks to fill the holes.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

There was very few factory options like this, most of these kind of items ( rear bumpers, spare tire carriers, tie down hooks, AC, pass side mirror, etc) were all dealer adds. GM was trying to make the most efficient truck for the money not like today where they want to make the fanciest truck out there.

Re: Bed Side Hooks

I think they are most likely owner added, like I did on my utility trailer. I just went to the local hardware store, bought a bunch of them and bolted them on wherever they were convenient:

Re: Bed Side Hooks

Thanks for the replies.

Although I personally feel that the hooks add a little character and could look appropriate on a truck with nice patina. I just could never do this to a fresh pair of bed sides. I mean, there's probably a few other (discreet) places where I could have installed hooks. Holy smokes

Re: Bed Side Hooks

My 64 chevy c20 has them and my 64 GMC 1500 has them. My 64 chevy has some other interesting brackets though...don't know if you can see them in the picture of not....

(This picture is almost 2 years before I got the truck. lol)
