factory options

i have a real basic options truck and love all the loaded trucks, especially 72 cheyenne supers.i like all the trim and everything. i was wondering which trucks had side molding?ive seen some 71-72s with top and bottom and some with just bottom, and some in black and some in wood grain, what dictates this?were they offered in all paint colors? which trucks had houndstooth interiors?

Re: factory options

Upper and/or lower trim could be an option for any Custom or Custom Deluxe, with the lower having black center. All Cheyennes had woodgrain lower trim, but upper was still optional. Cheyenne Supers all came with woodgrain lower and upper trim. This only applies to fleetside models. Houndstooth was only applied to Cheyenne Supers with bench seat.

Re: factory options

Wood bed floor was available on any model, swb or lwb. Wood floor was standard on step sides and Longhorns. There were no specific options that were automatically put on Supers - it was just an appearance package. I ran across a Cheyenne Super that was 307, auto, manual steering, manual brakes and no A/C!! Supers could be ordered in any color combination, even solids.

Re: factory options

Trucks of this era were not optioned as today. The Chyenne and SC packages were as above.Other options were on an as ordered basis.I have seen tilt wheel in a basic farm truck with granny 4 speed. The dealer or buyer ordered a truck with the options they thought worked best together or for what they personally wanted.
The COPO program used to build factory hot rods such as the Yenko's and such was originally designed to enable companies to order trucks aand cars for fleet use with the options a company wanted and could be as simple as a color package.Camper Specials and cab/chassis destined for the camper conversion market seem to have gotten a lions share of options though there were plenty of well optioned trucks built.
