What goes between the fender and bed?
Hey all, when I disasembled the rear fenders (68 stepside) there was a white caulk looking stuff between the fender and the bedside. I have had the truck since new so I know it came from the factory....what was it and what do I put back?
Thanks for looking. |

Some folks use the "welting" that lmc and such sells, but I don't like it personally. I'll use seam sealer when I put my fenders back on.

Re: What goes between the fender and bed?
Thanks guys....It caught me off guard when I saw it. I think I have some seam sealer. Is it to actually keep the water out or as a absorbtion tool?

Re: What goes between the fender and bed?
I would think to keep it out but I know where your going, some of it looks spongy and would lead to think that

Re: What goes between the fender and bed?
You don't want an absorbant material between two metals.

Re: What goes between the fender and bed?
Like most things GM does, they build them for 2 or 3 year use, not 40. Its easy to look back and ask why the did something like that, but at the time of design, you would've been pissed if the fender wells sqeeked from the factory on the drive home.

Re: What goes between the fender and bed?
When I put mine back together , I got an inner tube and cut it into strips and put that between the fender and bedside.
