1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
So i figured i would start a project thread on the truck. I just wanted a truck when i went to look at it. But the pullman camper is really cool. Its crazy, my Old lady loves it! But its a Brick on the back so im still on the fence with keeping it on or taking it off! Anyway Here is the info. Its a 68 C20 with 327 an th400, posi rear (HO52), big old 17" wheels, pb, ps, A/C, oil, temp, amp gauges, 3 gas tanks, Its got a crazy big generator! The camper is all original, with the seat, ICE box, lighting, and rack. Other then the radio, sh*ty paint job, carb/air cleaner its all original. |

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
OK so here is where im at. The rear brake line blew out. Right before my test drive! It didnt stop me. I still bought it and drove it home 40 miles. Im gonna replace all the rear lines from the p/valve back. But none of my local stores have/can get a rear hose for the coil spring truck. Im just gonna get all the lines and change them today, and ill track down the hose and change it later.
The day i got it home i worked till dark tuning it. Changed wires, plugs, a few lines, swaped out carbs Holley for Holley and got it running good. The exhaust is Junk. All of it. Both manifolds are cracked. So i ordered a set of cheap headers. I know, but it will help it breathe. And i have all the stuff here to put in 2-1/2 exhaust, and ill exit it out the sides. Most of the electrical works, except the dash lights. I checked the fuese and replaced a few bulbs. And i checked the switch with a working spare i have. But still nothing. Any ideas on this??? I used one of the retrofit A/C kits from autozone. Its working now. Im gonna place an order with classic parts for some stuff i need. Rockers, front marker lense (2), dome lense, sill plates, door gaskets, gas cap, breather tube, and decals for the original air cleaner (i have). Ill fix the rockers and patch the little bit of rust in the floors to seal up the cap for the A/C I just wanna get the truck reliable and im gonna drive it alot before winter. Once winter hits ill worry about the rest of the body and maybe paint. I want to keep the truck as original as i can though. |

Cool set up, looks like it would make a nice weekend fishing / hunting vehicle.
I never realized the pullman top was made to slide out like that. Reminds me of this one I saw for sale years ago. |

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
OK i have a problem. LOL Well i havt swapped headers for manifolds yet on one of these old trucks. I didnt pay att to the fact that the generator bracket mounts right to the manifold. So at this point i have the exhaust all gutted ready to put in the headers and 2 1/2 exhaust. But need to figure out a way to get it all set up. Ive done some research and im not having any luck finding a bracket for the generator.
Sooooo i have a bunch of external regulated alts in stock. If i track down a universal alt bracket. Will it line up with my pulleys? And how do i wire it? |

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
I found one in jegs or something that bolts over the header and then has slotted holes to align the pulleys.

Here and here I think is what I have, new post couldnt edit. A search on jegs and you can find lots of them that are similar to these.

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
Yes, I have it on a short water pump 327 in my 68 that originally had the mount on the manifold. I put headers on and for the time the old man and I welded something to the header flange for the alternator. After running that way for a few years (I was in highschool an didnt know much better) I decided to do it this way which I figured was the right way to do it. You can adjust the bracket to line up the pulleys and so far no problems.

During the search on jegs I seen some header companies like Hooker made some brackets too. Let us know how it works for you!

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
Well i got the truck all fixed. Its running and driving good. But i feel bad for taking off some of the original parts. And to make this truck what i want i will have to pull the camper, and swap the wheels and tires. Im thinking of selling it or trading it. I posted up a WIW add. I would like to see what people think the truck is worth in this market. I would rather see this truck stay original.

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
I really would rather not strip this truck down. So i decided to list the truck for sale or trade for 2 weeks. If i cant make a deal ill end up taking off the camper and swapping out the wheels to make it more driver friendly.

Just think, there was a day when you would have been the envy of all campers when you pulled up into the campgrounds with your truck!

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
Ive had some trade talk for the truck, but nothing has panned out. I put it on ebay 6 days ago. I have less 18 hours left. I have 857 views, and 35 watchers, but no bids :/ LOL

Re: 1968 C20 CST With Pullman Camper Project/Driver
Well it didnt sell on ebay. I had it listed at $2400 starting bid. Was that to much for this truck? Keep in mind the area too im in the chicagoland area so not alot of rust free trucks up here. Ended up with just shy 1000 views, and 42 watchers. But no bids I have someone interested in just the camper now. But i would rather see the truck stay original. Not sure what to do.
