Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

Well, I'm at the point again where I want more. I think that the stereo is done for now, so I want to refocus my efforts elsewhere right now.

I was thinking that I could/should rework the suspension, but wanted to see what you guys think, and maybe offer some suggestions as to what to do or how to go about it.

I was planning on a McGaughy's 4.5/6 kit with c-notch and possibly helper bags, along with their new big brake kit front and rear. I might end up working with Nate on a one-off Dropmember as well...

The big brakes wouldn't fit with the current wheels, so I'd install a set of Billet specialties Vintec (soft lip) wheels with the "spinner cap". 18x8 up front and 20x10 out back.

I really want to see what you guys think though. I haven't really seen a whole lot of wheels that appeal to me and go with my truck, so I was hoping one of you might have a suggestion.

The truck:

I dig the look of your truck now. If you wanted to stay with 17" wheels, you could go with the bigger versions of what you already have...

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

do it!! then next year i'll have a reason to be looking under your truck! LOL

i like the looks of the mags though... if i ever get wheels again i'll be looking at the coys.
the plan on mine is to keep my mags for regular cruising and some coy5's for shows so you can see the disc's in the back. i'm sticking to factory size brakes/rotors so i can still run the slots w/ a 5/7 drop to get rid of any fender gap.

Billet specialties Vintec (soft lip) I seen them before..

That would set it off, but you may want to go with one size front and back. Like just 18" or 20". Keep us posted,,

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

I'm leaning towards 18's all around with larger tires. Would probably ride a little better and fit the brakes I'll be running better.

This whole ordeal may have to hold off though. I have another deal int eh works right now that will suck all my excess cash from my wallet like a hooker.

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

I think I found the wheel/tire combo I want.

Billet Specialties Vintec Soft Lip w/ spinner cap

18x8 front with Toyo Proxes S/T 255/50/18

18x10 rear with Toyo Proxes S/T 295/45/18

Now to start saving...

I'm running 255/45/ 18 and 295/40/20 toyos on mine with roughly the same drop. I think the sizes you listed will be too big. Mine are pushing it now. they ride great by the way. that toyo is a great tire.

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

I'm running the toyo proxes s/t's 255/45/20's and 295/45/20's on my truck. The only thing I've noticed is that the compounds on the tire are pretty sensitive to the temperature. I cant get traction at all when its 40 something degrees out.

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

With what I'm working on right now I think that 18's will be perfect. They'll be lighter than 20's and will clear the big ass brakes I want to run too.

Also, I'm not really into big wheels. I like 'em on certain cars/trucks, but they really just never appealed to me. I'm happy with 15's, but the brakes will require a 17"+ wheel... The Toyo tires I chose are only slightly taller than the tires I have now, which is also nice.

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

I love the stance it has now. Seems like every other truck is slammed, it's getting as common as a 350 small block...lol. I'd say go for the brakes, can't ever have enough of that. sucks the slots have to go, though those vintecs would look great.

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

Mt room amte and I are about to try and figure out a custom rear suspension. A sort of bolt on 4 link w/ coilovers. We'll have to see what we can come up with.

A bolt on 4 link with coil overs would be nice to have.why not do a 3 link and use a watts link?

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

We're still in the initial planning stages. We've only been bouncing ideas off each other. I may just end up doing traction bars and a flip kit, but I figured that because I'll have a one-off front suspension, that maybe the rear should match...

Re: Taking suggestions on wheels and suspension

Alot I'm sure, but the entire interior has been stripped, tail lamps are gone, frame is bent... Only thing in decent shape is the motor/trans and rear end.

So I'm starting a list of parts that I want to add or need for the swap. It's getting long really quick...

One-off Dropmember w/QA1 coilovers
Tubular Trans Crossmember
Custom Driveline
Custom Front Control Arms
Flip kit w/ C-notch
Cal-Tracs Bars (chrome)
New A/C system with chrome hard lines and custom pressure lines
All New Autometer Gauges
New Custom Exhaust
New wheels and Tires
SSBC Big Brakes front/rear
SSBC Brake Master Cylinder (polished)
New Brakelines
Powdercoat front and rear suspension

I'm sure the list will grow much longer as I continue. Hopefully I can work out some deals with people and work a ton of overtime so I can do this next winter. Also, my room mate wants me to supercharge it...

EDIT: In the few minutes since I posted that, the list had doubled in size... I didn't bother to edit the current one though. Now reason to, its long enough.

Anyone know someone @ GMPP I can talk to about this project. This motor and especially the trans are so new that they don't even offer them for sale int he after-market yet...
