Towed vehicle wiring
I need to tow My Scout with my '67. I have the four flat already wired on my truck but need to wire my Scout to be towed. What are some methods I might use to wire it up?

Re: Towed vehicle wiring
I'm not sure how the scout wiring works exactly under the hood, but I can tell ya what I did just a few weeks ago. Our trucks have a plug going through the firewall that the main harness plugs into. That wire goes to the back of the truck that hooks up to tail lights & all that. I'll assume that the Scout has the same? I got a roll of Grote wire & soldered a trailer plug on one end & some male spade connectors on the other. I unpluged the plug that goes through the firewall & pulled it into the engine compartment. I then plugged it all together, ran the wire out through the grill & voila. I towed it that way for the provincial safety inspection & saved on one-day licensing fees. See attached pic. Yes, I know, no safety chains! I'm guilty!

Re: Towed vehicle wiring
For a permanent setup, you use diodes on the towed vehicle to keep its electrical system seperated, yet use its own lights. I find it much easier to just get a set of magnetic lights though.

Re: Towed vehicle wiring
I am thinking that the magnetic lights are looking better all the time. Thanks for the input, as I may wire this permanently later.

Re: Towed vehicle wiring
I did mine up like passthebuck, then I took a plug from the inside of the cap portion of that harness, and spliced the 4 flat harness to it. So now when i use a tow bar, all I have to do is pop the hood of the towed truck, unplug the harness on the firewall, and plug this into it, and the other end to the towing vehicle in the 4 flat plug. Works sweet, and is stupid simple.
