Throttle Cable Conversion
I finished my throttle linkage to cable driven gas pedal conversion and wanted to post about it in case there was other guys looking to do the same thing. The truck is a 67 stepside with a sbc 283.
Picked up 71/72 gas pedal and short throttle cable. Motor is in the 6 cyl position so it sits back closer to the firewall. First I pulled the firewall connection from the cable. Sniped the cable end that goes to the pedal so the cable can be pulled out of the sheath. Cut down the sheath to the desired length and then press it back together. Drilled a 1/2" hole in the firewall and squared it with a hand file. The firewall end of the cable snapped in place. Pedal bracket fab up. Drilled the 3 holes that hold the pedal to bracket with a #7 drill bit and then tapped it with 1/4" x 20 tap. Bolts are all 1/4" x 20. Short ones hold the bracket to the firewall and the long ones hold the pedal to bracket. More to follow. |

Re: Throttle Cable Conversion
Time to work on the cable. Picked up another cable from Pick-n-pull for $11. The newer 80's chevy cables were stronger and more flexible than the older cables. I grabbed a long one from an 86 GMC van.
Pedal arm end finished just like the factory one. Finished cable. Cut a slit in the top part of the arm to allow a 73 and up black clip to hold the cable in place on the pedal arm. Finished. It feels good and has great throttle response. |

Re: Throttle Cable Conversion
Nice work. I did something similar with a 69 cab, but it did not have threaded holes in the firewall. I mounted a 71 pedal directly over the 69 holes with a nut plate under the hood. This put the pedal a little further towards the right, which felt more comfortable to me.

Re: Throttle Cable Conversion
I hate to be a thread necromancer but I need the pictures that have been corrupted by PhotoChuckIt in this thread. These are too blurry to be of any use. I am mere days away from finally installing my own gas pedal conversion. Does anyone (perhaps the OP) have these pictures in their original condition?
As a post script I will say that I too was a victim of the PhotoChuckIt holocaust.

Re: Throttle Cable Conversion
I just swapped the 68 over form the old rods to my old 71 gas pedal. I used the Mr gasket throttle kit from O-riellys and it worked great.
I used the old bottom nut of the 68 old pedal braket and then drilled the two upper holes. Installed bolts and nuts. The Mr gasket throttle kit comes complete with everything you need. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b...ttle+kit&pos=1

Re: Throttle Cable Conversion
This is an edit.
On my phone the pictures are crystal clear. On my computer it is all PhotoChuckIt logo with out-of-focus pictures. I will use the phone pictures as a reference I guess. Special thanks to Andy for the cable information!
