help with motor mounts - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 67 c-20 that had a 327 motor in it . I have to rebuild the 327 it blew a rod. In the mean time I have a 1979 250 6 cylinder that I can put in the truck until I get the 327 back together. My question is can I use the same motor mounts from the 327 or do I have to get specific motor mounts for the 250 6 cylinder ? And if I do need different mounts does anyone know where a good place to start looking is ? Thanks for the any help.

Should be the same mount, it is on 63-66. The only one which are different would be 292 and BB

the top of the frame has 3 holes for the motor mts. does the V8 use the 1st 2 holes closest to the radiator

It will bolt up to the mounts, but the six will sit a few inches to far forward and wont clear the radiator.

Larry from what I understand you only need the right mount, The left one will move up and work on the 6 and the 8, but right one will only work on the 6. But I've also heard that the 6 mount wont work on a 8. I have the set that you need. since my truck was a 283 truck. I dont use the front crossmember anymore. I have a SD member. let me know if you cant get yours to work and will work something out if you want.

Im still having a problem trying to find the 6 cylinder engine towers online anywhere . I have been able to find the rubber mounts, just not the towers . Does anyone know where I can find the engine towers to go on a 250 6 cylinder?

If I can find a set of V8 towers, I'll have a set of 6 cyl towers available

Did you try MANES TRUCK PARTS they have them listed on there web site.

Larry I'll try to get you pics of my V8 tomorrow night sometime, still at my parents. they are the stock stands that came on a 64.

yeah, the crossmember from 63-87 is the same and so is the stands. only the arms changed through the years

If you bolt the six in the stock location for a six you will need to shorten your drive shaft. It is easy to bolt the v8 in place of the 6cyl but the other way around not so much. Unless it is a 4x4 then it wont matter.

The small block mounts are the same mounts as the 6 cyls. exact same. the 6 cylinders just had a little spacer plate that went between the passenger mount and the block. the only 6 cylinder mounts that were different were the 292 mounts, and they only had a different passenger side mount that sat more forward. So if you have small block mounts, you can put a 6 cylinder on them as long as you have the spacer plate. As well as if you have a 6 cylinder (250 or 230) you can take it out and put the small block back in on the same mounts. Theyre the same except the 292's.
