Question Question for 4X4 guys and gals

I am in the market for new tie rod ends. In the LMC catalog, the picture in catalog CB.22 on page 97....it shows the tie rod ends pointing up. Or in other words the grease zerks are pointing toward the ground. On my Suburban, it is the opposite. My zerks point upward and the nuts on the tie rod ends are on the bottom of the knuckles. How are everyone elses set up? Zerks up or zerks down?

1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed.

1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm

my grease things go out the sides and the nut is on bottom

Some were on the side and on top. It depends on who you got them from. Kind of a visible difference between brands I guess. As long as the grease fittings are on top or above the steering arm on the axle and the nut on the bottom your okay.

If I understand your question, you're referring to the tierod between steering knuckles.
I personally have never noticed, but I've heard of a rough rule of thumb for determining 10-bolt/dana44 differences at a glance, and that is studs up for dana44 and studs down for 10-bolt. It all depends on the source of the knuckles themselves.


Don't do like my dad did this winter. He rebuilt his front axle and mixed parts up to get the best ones, got it all assembled, and found the knuckles he happened to install had different direction tierod holes!

Mine has the Dana 44 and the zerks are out the sides. I said they were on top..but I meant on top with respect to the stud only. Hope that's al clear now that I've muddied it up a bit.

Ya.....LMC has to be wrong. That is why I ordered them from Autozone...a little more expensive but easier to return if they are wrong. I even looked at my buddy's '74 GMC K20 and his are the same as ours.
