Tell me what you think

After riding around at the rodrun last weekend, I got this hairbrained idea. I painted my spare and my brother's spare to see how it looked. I've seen lots of solid black trucks with red steel wheels that looked good, so I figured I'd see hoe it looks on a two-tone. In one way I like it, in another I don't.
I'll probably leave my others the way they are, so you won't offend me if you're honest.

Just paint the ridge around the slots the red. My dad did an 81 that was white with red interior and it looked good. Just a thought

Re: Tell me what you think

Personally I never liked the painted stock wheels unless they were silver.

I had a set on an 86 4x4 that were black, and the truck was black.

I painted them chrome/silver.

The blue 84 had of course blue wheels, I painted them chrome/silver.

Re: Tell me what you think

68Stepbed, I kind of like it and I kind of don't. I can't explain why. In some angles it looks awesome, and others it reminds me of those guys with spinner hubcaps - tacky.

I don't know what to say, dude. I wish I had a better explanation.

This is kind-of how I felt. I think what makes it look odd is for one, the HUGE white letters, and two, it needs to be lowered a little. I do like 1LOC10's chop but I'll never drop it that low. If I do drop it, it will only be a slight drop. Enough to look stock but still look hotrodish. For now I plan to cut one coil for a 2" front drop to see exactly where I want it. I'm thinking about 3" in front and 2" in the rear will give it a nice mean look with a little rake.

EDIT- also, 1LOC10, thank you for removing my fantasically ugly rear bumper. I need a sport bumper BAD!

This was my thoughts too. If you like the look, then the white letters have to go, and a mild drop would set it off.

The center caps don't really go with that look either. Consider something like the pic below from Wheel Vintiques. Personally I would just put the Hopsters back on it and buy new wheels for your 68...

Re: Tell me what you think

personally, i like em black. but then again, i'm biased, as i have a set of them on my 92. i like the black look, as opposed to the argent. kind of gives it a stock, but not stock look.

Well, I think they look awesome! Wanna know why? Cause you got that red stripe running along the sides - without it red wheel would be way outta place, bit now everything matches just right. Love it

Oh, and don't you dare paint the wheels black and lower he truck - you have something very nice and pretty unique, don't scrap it and turn it into a "me too" ride. If you want a low truck get a mid-to-late-'70s short box and lower that.

Dude lowering a truck dosen't "scrap it" ,It can allways be reversed as long as you don't bag it and chop up the frame.

A mild 3/4 drop can make a world of differance in the look and attitude of a truck and it is very easy to return to stock ride hight.

I have to agree with you about the Black wheels the red looks perfect.

Every truck or car i have ever seen with black wheels looks like poo stock or custom rims i just don't understand this trend it gives the illusion of a dirty vehicle even if it's just been washed and detailed out.

Any ways 68 i like the RED wheels i think it completes the look of your truck lowered or stock R/H.

Oh, I know that, I was considering a 3/2 drop for my truck, but instead went with stock geometry and the biggest tires that fit in there. A dropped truck can look real badass (like half the trucks in this board), but his looks badass now as is... Dunno, maybe a mild drop will work nice indeed, like 2/2 or so, but nothing wheel-tucking like the photoshopped images posted earlier.

Re: Tell me what you think

I am not a fan of painted wheels, especially when the vehicle isn't modified...such as paint/body or suspension mods. Looks kind of redneck like.

Matt, on your truck...I would leave them grey. You already have a tri-tone paintjob that is somewhat "busy", adding red wheels makes it look even more "busy" to me...my eyes don't know what to look at. Don't get me wrong, your truck is very nice...and I would drive it any day of the week...the red wheels just don't do it for me personally.

Very nice/clean looking truck. I still like the factory rally color though. Not that it looks bad or anything....just my opinion.

My opinion: drop it like SLONAKERS, stock silver with black walls, add a sport bumper, and maybe tint the windows.

Nice truck!
