Line-X users?

Im kicking around a crazy idea.... Rip out all the old wood in my bed and have the inside bed-sides sprayed with the color matched Line-X stuff, then put in all new wood and strips. I think it would look sweet and still be a useable bed.

Anyone have a line-x bed? Im a little worried that the color match may not
look good, or might fade.... Thanks!

All liner installers will tell you that the liner will fade. Some have UV additives but they will fade. Makes sense that a liner in Phoenix will fade faster than Missouri. All about the amount of exposed sunlight.
The wood is a measured fit though. Line-X will spray in somewhat consistant but will add to the thickness much more than paint. Your wood may sit higher and may need to be narrowed to fit loosely and not bind on those humid days when it expands.
Just a thought.
I have Line-X in a steel bed and love it. My personal choice above all others.

Here is one of the "Rat Rod '57" my dad is building. The truck is going to be satin black and inside the bed was done with the black liner.

OoooOOoooOOOoo. Thats exactly what Im talking about. Do you have any more pics by chance? Where did the liner stop and the paint start? Nice wood too, what kind is that?

The paint and liner line is at the top flat part of the bed where the rolled edge starts. The wood is cedar and I have to get some more up to date pics.

Wow, I have never thought of using cedar. It is pretty plentiful here in the PNW, but still expensive--I've been thinking about maple or teak
The coolest thing about it--it will weather a bit but it won't rot.

I've mentioned before that, AFAIK, Line-X is the only urethane "bed liner" that can maintain a consistent, even, sandpaper-like finish even on vertical surfaces. All the other liners look like barf (uneven bumps) on vertical surfaces. Some can do fairly smooth horizontal surfaces, but that's where your bed's wood will be, so moot point.

Is cedar hard enough for bed use beyond a show truck?

Cedar is to soft to put in a work truck bed. It would not last to long.

That`s Eastern White Cedar,too.Smelly cedar,in otherwords,like cedar cheats and cheap Appalachian souvenier boxes & plaques.Looks real cool!
4x4poet is absolutely correct.Line-X is in a class by itself.It it applied hot and looks like a vinyl job,like your dash pad.I had the UV additive put in my dark grey job and never saw any fade in the few years before the truck was gone.If it fades,it takes longer than you need to be concerned with.
They use amasking tape with a wire in it.It leaves a nice clean finished edge.I had Line-X put on my powdercoated ladder racks that were made of square tube,1 1/4"uprights and platform/1"rails.The Line-X was applied to the top & inside of the rails and top & sides of the patform,allwith nice clean edges.Yeah,alot of masking and it cost me.

Guess I should go back to my Line X dealer. He refused to sell me Blue because of fading issues. So did ArmaCoat and Rhino. All said that black fades the least. Colors the most. I really want the Blue.

I used Rhino-Lined on mine with color match. Don't really have a preference to which one to use. Don't want to get everybody all worked up either. I just used Rhino because I had $365 worth of gift certificates.

I just thought I show you another pic of the color match. I love mine and get compliments all the time.

That looks sweet! Did you go all the way to the horiz top of the sides of the bed too, or just do the vertical part?

I used Speedliner in mine, it has lasted really well in the 3-4 years I have had it, with minimal fading. Mine is just the steel bed.

I went with Super-Liner simply because I know several guys that have had it in their truck beds for years here in Africa, I mean Texas, without noticable fading and that's what I was looking for. I know for a fact it is not as abrasion resistant as Line-X but I don't plan on hauling cinder blocks, pipe, etc. If you want durablity against abrasion and less fading (not as good as Super Liner against fading) then Line X is what I found to be the best. Rhino Liner is crap when in comes to holding up against fading. I see Rhino Liner beds all the time around here and everyone of them that starts out black ends up a nasty dull gray in a matter of months.

Hey Yellow 69,get a new picture so you can show off the Maggie Valley parking lot mod.I agree Y69's liner matches his paint well,but that is coming from a blind old fart who couldn't see his ghost flames except from certain angles in certain light.

I just did the bedsides. I didn't go all the way over. The PO had a wood bed(plywood ) so I had a 1/4 thick steel bed made and bolted it in with carriage bolts.

I like it, and I guess that's all that matters.

My Line-X guy won`t do white,it yellows.All urethane seems to do that.I use a tri-polimer urethane caulk on my jobs.It`s the best caulk money can buy.It`s used for glazing/caulking on skyscrapers.It yellows some,too.

A Line-X franchise said they could paint the coating if I supplied the paint. To gain UV protection, IOW. The idea has possiblities where no cargo will scratch the coating. Like on rockers or the roof. Best part is, they have already masked everything for paint!

That is true,it is paintable.Although,self defeating for the purpose paint protection.Also,you can always re-do it.I paid the extra dough for UV protectant,it works.Since the Line-X is applied hot,it has a tighter,denser surface.It doesn`t take in dirt and seals better from being less porous.I think this helps it resist fading better.
