I've been thinking about an early K5 for a while and recently found a 72. I'm going out tomorrow to look it over again. What are the typical problem areas for these? I've read about rust in the windshield and pan, but this one looked OK when I looked at it last week. Where should I look hard? Thanks

From what I have seen, other than the areas you have listed...the rear quarters, typically in front of the back wheel, but of course look in the back too. Also, the rocker boxes.

Hopefully, if it's nice, you'll end up with it. Post some pics. if you get it.

Because these all seem to start leaking around the windshield seal, the water runs down the "A" pillar and ends up causing rust where the kick panel meets the floor.

Blazer problems?, at first I thought maybe your blazer was cheating on you.

They can rust anywhere, problems areas include rockers, doors outerfloors, rocker boxes, A-pillars like Brian had mentioned.

It is basically the everwhere within 1 foot of the door. Make sure you crawl underneath and check out those rocker boxes.

Just look really close at the highlighted areas. Like I said anything within one foot of the door

Thanks Guys. I'm going out this morning to take a closer look at it. Last week he wasn't sure if he wanted to sell it or not. He called yesterday and said he would. It looked good, but I didn't really get to crawl in and around it too much. I'll update later today.

make sure you check the rocker boxes too. They are under the truck between the rocker panels and the frame. Here's a pic of one that has a huge hole cut into it.

I went out and saw it today. I guess we all hope of finding that well optioned jem hiding under a layer of dust. You know the one with beautiful buckets, tilt, tach, and tow hooks. My luck, no such animal. Probably a solid foundation for a restoration with very few options. The windshield area is real good. The floors on both sides have rust that would require patches. The doors are actually pretty good, but the left one has a crack in the upper hinge area, probably fixable. The seats are just donor frames. The the rear pan looks ok, had some water on it and has some surface rust. The left rocker is solid, the right is mashed, but no rust. Both rocker boxes look solid. 350, 4 speed, 205, and posi. All this and NO Title. I'm still considering, might be a good one to part.

Boy, if I could find one like that here in MN, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat! Just looking at the picture, I found about a dozen things I could use! Looks to be a good donor. Good luck - we're staying tuned.
