Drive shaft to rear end, bolts & "caps"
I recently changed out the rear end on my 70 frame to a 71/72 rear end (to convert to 5 lugs)...and noticed after I slid the u-joint back into place and then went to put the bolts and caps back on..that the spacing and I think the bolt size is not the same...
I'm sure I can run to the hardware store and buy the proper bolts..but does anyone sell the "caps"? thanks

Re: Drive shaft to rear end, bolts & "caps"
so the differential yokes are different sizes from the 70 to 71/72?
I guess that's answering a question with another question and I'm not really even doing that.... just clarifying.

Re: Drive shaft to rear end, bolts & "caps"
Well, unless someone changed out the rear end in the 70 I have with something else..then they must be differernt. But it was definitly a 67-70 rear end I took out.

Re: Drive shaft to rear end, bolts & "caps"
I believe your dealing with to different yokes. The 70 C10 should of been a Spicer 1310 1 1/16 cap with a 3 1/4 cross and u-bolts. The new rearend probably has a (I think) Spicer 1330 which is 1 1/16 cap with a 3 5/8 cross and bolts and straps. Either change the yokes but dangerous if you over tight the nut or under tighten. Second option use a hybrid u-joint. One half that fits your driveline and the other half fits the new yoke. Most parts guys give the deer in the headlights look when you as for it but it is available. The larger u-joint is commonly found in big block trucks. Hope this helps.

Re: Drive shaft to rear end, bolts & "caps"
Well that sounds like it makes sense...except the U-joint fits into the yoke on the rear end correctly..but the bolts and straps that came off of the 70 yoke, will not fit the 71/72 yoke...
I found a set of u-bolts I had for another yoke..but that won't work..since I need the bolts and straps..
