Custom Cab Steering Wheel

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in the deluxe steering wheel that came with the Custom Cab package with Chevy trucks versus the GMC trucks (64)?

Re: Custom Cab Steering Wheel

10-20-30 indicates Chevrolet as in C10-C20-C30
910-920-930 indicates GMC
P10 indicates Vans like Grumman
G10 starts in 64 indicating full size van
R10 was Corvair.
All indicates all models.

Therefore:
1960 had a different Deluxe Steering Wheel than 1961? Color?
1961 was different than all the other years?
1962-64 were the same. Mine ( 63 ) is painted white over a dark base.
1965 started off with white, same as 62-64, early jobs, then changed to Medium Fawn till the end of the production run?
1966 same as 65 Medium Fawn, but with a different horn ring?

As for colors, you may be confusing the C models(pickups) with the colors of the G and P models(van and stepvans). 62 thru 64 Chevy and Canadian GMC pickups used white steering wheels while the 65 thru 66's used medium fawn wheels. 62 thru 66 American GMC pickups used medium fawn wheels. You are correct, there is no deluxe wheel for the American built GMC.

Your right Ron , do you think the Steering Wheels were different than the American GMC's?

This always seems to happen when GMC's are discussed. American built GMC's and Canadian GMC's are two different animals. American GMC's used the same steering wheel on both standard and custom cabs. Canadian GMC's used Chevy style steering wheels (two different wheels-one for standard and one for custom cab)

Re: Custom Cab Steering Wheel

Then to clarify, there is no Deluxe Wheel for GMC then? And my apologies for inducing the Canadian factor!

Since that wheel has a Chevy bowtie in the emblem, there's a good chance there was a steering wheel swap somewhere along the way.

Re: Custom Cab Steering Wheel

The '66 model year Chevy trucks used a 66-67 Chevy II (Nova) steering wheel for the deluxe cab trim option. I'm not sure about the GMC, but the steering wheel in the '66 GMC interior photo is the 66-67 Chevy II/Nova steering wheel.

how do you know that it wasn't the other way around, that the 66-67 nova didn't use the 66 chev deluxe steering wheel

...because the steering wheel was also used in the 1965 model year Chevy IIs/Novas, but they're easier to find/search as the 2nd gen Nova steering wheel since the 1965 Chevy II was a bit different from their previous 1st gen cousins. The trucks, in general used previous model steering wheels. The previous years deluxe steering wheels for our trucks used the earlier 1960-62 Biscayne/Bel Air steering wheels.

Re: Custom Cab Steering Wheel

My 63 fleetside has the full rack of Custom Cab options, including large back window, chrome bumpers and bumper over-riders, clock, trim, four-way flashers and probably a heap of other stuff; I'm told that it had virtually every option available but strangely no power steering!

Steering wheel though is standard item.

Here is the Custom Steering Wheel for my '66. The horn ring and button have been rechromed. I will be restoring the rest of the wheel as it gets a little closer to install.

Re: Custom Cab Steering Wheel

It's hard to tell from the pictures so I'll just ask...Is the only difference between the standard and deluxe '66 wheel, the horn cap/ring?

The steering wheel itself is different. The custom horn ring wont fit a standard wheel. I looked a while to find a steering wheel with the stainless steel rings so I can do a 2 tone wheel.
