Bazooka's 63 build thread.

Seems like its the thing to do around here so I decided to start a build thread for my project.

Its a 63 Chevy C-10. Shortbed fleetside with big window cab. The 350 sbc and 700R4 trans were donated from a 85 Chevy 1/2 ton. The same truck also donated its complete front crossmember along with it's power brakes/steering. The engine is all stock. Truck exhales thru dual flowmaster exhaust.

My plans are to give it a 60's custom look... big changes are comming. Follow along if you like..

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

This was my first project on the truck. installing a new summit aluminum radiator (SUM-380324) Thanks Chief..Sorry no before pictures this time. This radiator fits extremly well. Had to modify the angle of lower radiator hose outlet. Had that welded locally. The fan was making contact.. guy I know modified a stock upper bracket to work with the new radiator.

Well here ya go. My first small update.

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

Small update..

Got my new wheels. 15x6 bare Smoothies. I cleaned them with Acetone and sprayed them with Duplicolor high temp gloss black engine paint. Paint works pretty good for this. Second time I have used it on a set of wheels. Im satisfied with how it came out.

I am going to get some of those short bullet center caps for the wheels for that vintage look I'm going for..

Tires are 205/75/15 tires with thin whites.. Will get them mounted this coming week probably.

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

So it is 5 lug front and 6 lug rear, since you put in the 85 front x-member?

Yeah, that is correct. It's 5x5 front and 6x5 1/2 In the back.

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

cool, have you thought about a fan shroud? It would probably really help with cooling, as it helps pull air through the radiator, instead of just pulling air from all over. Just my $.02 Sweet truck, though!!

Yeah, I haven't got to that yet. Was planning on hooking up a electric fan with a temp activated sensor. Runs 185 degrees in 100 degree weather so I havent been in a big hurry.. The temp does rise to about 195 sitting in traffic though so the airflow is probably a little lacking as is.. I have a 180 thermostat in it..

You can get the caps at any wheel place. Summit has them..

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

the truck looks cool as is but I'm taking it a different direction. It's going to be much improved in my opinion I think you'll like it too

EDIT: I just updated the opening post with some better pics of the truck the way I bought it..

The whole big and little tires/wheels with the nose down attitude just isn't my thing.

Plus the wheels that are on the truck right now will not work with the modifications I have planned in the very near future...(too wide) and incorrect offset.

There is going to be some MAJOR work done to this thing VERY soon..

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

Got the wheels and tires mounted today.. Haven't orderd the center caps yet cause I wanted to order them at the same time I order my drop spindles (save shipping $) and I needed to measure my rotors while I had the wheels off. I am going to be using the DJM 3" spindles. My rotors are the 1.25" units so I can order the cheaper set.. They are $50 cheaper then the ones for the 1.0" rotors.. Whoever lowered this truck just cut the springs like a mad man with stock spindles and there is huge camber and a very bouncy ride.. thats all going to be fixed..

Next on the agenda is to get this puppy laying on the pavement..

I think it will look much better when I get the caps on there and sitting level at ride height..

That's a sweet looking ride you got there ) Your gonna love the ride once you get rid of those chopped factory springs. Mine only had one coil cut off and rode like it had no suspension. I replaced the coils with 3 inch drop springs and added 2 1/2 drop spindles and Doetsch Tech shocks and it rides better than my '97 Silverado now. Have fun dropping it the right way )

Re: Bazooka's 63 build thread.

Decided to do the engine first before I do anything else. Everything under the hood will be brand new. Already got started on that. I'll post some before and after pics in a few weeks when it's done..
