Body mounts

Ok my Blazer is completly together. I was checking out my body mounts and they are pretty dry rotted. I going to buy the complete kit with new bolts and change them. Since My truck is not all apart is this going to be difficult to do? Im figuring Id loosen the back part and use a 4x4 and jack and change them. Im pulling the motor out next week so the radiator and firewall shouldnt be too bad Right? Any tips, suggestions or problems I may have?

Re: Body mounts

Brian,
I did mine before it went out for body/paint. The carriage bolts are tack welded to the tub at the factory so you have to carefully grind or cut the tack weld without damaging the floor and paint. A little tricky. The full kit I bought through LMC fit well but I found that the spacer sleeves were not as stout as the originals. I couldn't reuse the original carriage bolts (and leave them in without going through the pain of grinding the tack off) because they were pretty rusted inside the sleeves. With your rig already being done, I would jack the body as little as possible while installing the new mounts - much easier if you only have to jack it up very slightly to pull the rubbers and spacers out when the bolt is removed. I used a floor jack and a piece of 4X4 to jack the tub as needed, but I had removed all mount nuts. Definitely good to have a helper feeding the new bolt down from the top and holding it down keeping it from spinning while you tighten it. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Re: Body mounts

You're body lines/gaps might need tweaking afterwards. Make sure the top is on.

Re: Body mounts

You might want to consider poly mounts. I did the rubber kit and within a year mine started to look just as bad as the 40 yr old rubber I replaced them with.
