cab mount locations
I am getting ready to replace the bushings on my wifes 72 longbed
I have found the front mount location under the carpet but I can not find where the rear bolt comes through. Do I have to remove the gas tank in order to find / remove them ? Also what have you guys used to remove these bolts (besides a torch) sinnce they been on the truck for so long. Any suggestions on this and maybe a pic of where the rear mounts are would be appreciated Here is a pic of what I am working on |

Re: cab mount locations
The back ones thread in from the bottom so you should not have to remove anything. Here is what I do, I try to tighten, then I try to loosen them. I have only done this on 4 or 5 of these trucks so far and it has worked for me.
If they don't come lose you may have to find the holes from the inside and soak them with PB Blaster or something like that. I don't have one of my trucks near me right now so I can not honestly say if the tank needs to be removed to get to the holes from above, but the holes are real close to the tank.

Re: cab mount locations
Tank doesn't have to be removed.
I used blaster on my 69 for several days before removing. Sprayed them couple of times a day. Didn't have too much trouble removing but it would be better if you had someone hold the wrench on top while you work with a breaker bar on the bottom. If they break they probably needed replacing anyway. Forgot to mention. my seat was off the cab when I did this but you may be able to get to the rear corner bolts by sliding the seat forward if you need to. |
