Why are these front X-member nuts copper plated?
When I disassembled my Panel, I noticed that on the ten 3/8s bolts that hold the front crossmember on, the nuts seem to be copper plated. The bolts seem to be un-plated, just the nuts are. These are lousy pictures, but I'm just wondering if this is normal or if someone had changed them out at some point.
  The bolt on the right I cleaned up a little on a wire wheel.

You're sure they are copper? That's weird. I'm wondering if it's some kind of a "grounding" reason. It seems that copper would be way too soft for nuts. Hmmmm

They might be plated, but i have not heard of copper, Cadmium maybe? like a brake booster?

maybe brass nuts like on exhaust manifolds to keep them from siezing up?

Copper plating of steel nuts is a way to reduce corrosion and it was fairly common for certain applications.
It looks like the nuts were well protected, judging from your picture. Jim
