heater hose placement
Radiator went bad today and have a replacement but it doesn't have the heater hose nipple on the radiator like current one does
Need to hook up one heaterhose to waterpump instead of the radiator. Does it matter which port I use on the water pump? There is a side port and a top port. I would prefer to use the side port but it is a square plug end and after this long I am not sure if it will even come out. The top port has a reducer and a plug that I amm sure I can break loose. Are they both ouputs cause the other hose goes into the top of intake manifold

Side one is the one you are supposed to use. You will also need to find a long pipe nipple to install there, most are to short. Not sure about the top port.

The water comes out of the intake and is returned to either the radiator or the water pump. I am pretty sure the top fitting on the pump is a "suck" port also just like the side one. I have a spare fitting that goes in the side of the pump, if you want it just let me know, I'll drop it in the mail.

top or side nipple on the pump will work fine, just about every 350 i have owned has had the heater hose on the water pump

Most auto parts have long and short heater hose nipples similar to the one pictured above. Mine also uses the pump side port and the other hose to the intake. Make sure to use teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads.

didn't know if there was a pressure and return side on waterpump.
Thanks for the offer Green Machine but the reason I had to go to the top port was cause the plug on the side is a square head and I couldn't get a enough bite with a socket to break it loose. It is 1/2" square but I couldn't fit a 1/2" drive socket reversed on it either. no room for a pipe wrench and it was to cold to pull the whole pump to try and get that side port off. For now I'll just have the pipe run into the top till I can figure a way to remove the side plug. Kind of sounds like a spring thing

Just went out to the garage and verified this. An 11/16 - 12 point socket fits the 1/2 in square plug pretty well, might be able to get it that way, just an idea......

Thanks for the extra input tom but the 11/16 12 point is just big enough to slip on the corners. Real nuckle buster if you know what I mean.
