1967 1/2 Ton 4x4 w/PTO Transfer, How Many?
I recently aqquired my 67 1/2 ton chevy. It's a 4x4 and has a PTO transfer case (what the heck does PTO stand for? Power transfer output?) Anyhow, I was wondering if there's any way to find out how many trucks like mine were built the same model year. Where can I find this info? In addition, why is there a pto on it-was this standard with four wheel drive transfer case in '67? Was it a farm truck type option for running equipment, or a military thing?

PTO stands for power take off. Yes it was used to increase the utility of the vehicle. Lots of things can be attached. Winches, dump beds, snow plow blades, etc. etc.

Cool, now I don't have to be embarrassed when someone asks me what a "PTO" is, anyone know where I could find production numbers?

Not neccessarily a production option. Several of the transmissions and transfer cases have ports to connect PTO. Example: SM420 and SM 465 4 speeds w/ granny gear, your rockwell transfer case and the NP205, new in 1969. 2wd and 4wd could have come w/ PTOs.
Does your options list show the PTO as being installed as an RPO?

pto
My 69 GMC had a winch and pto installed at the dealer. A pto winch versus an electrtic is like night and day. The winch will be going back on after i rebuild it.
