My 55 GMC Build

Like most, I have been watching some of the real craftsmen on this site for a good long while. Now seems like a good time to start my build thread.

My 1955 2nd series GMC update has been a long time coming. I have owned this truck longer than anything I have today except most of my tools and my Snap-on tool box that I bought in the late ‘60s. I bought the GMC in New Mexico in ’73. I drove this truck all over the Southwest for 10 years and finally to Illinois where we built a garage and let her sit. We moved 3 or 4 times and she was always in different storage buildings. Finally we are in NE Tennessee and we have built a great shop building with heat and air.

Re: My 55 GMC Build

I have installed the 1985 Corvette F & R suspension using Flat Out Engineering install kits. I have bought 5.3 engine, transmission and ECM with 13,987 miles out of a ’03 Tahoe, with a CarFax report! I have an Old Air Products air conditioner that fits the ’55 GMC dash.
I have bought a PSI engine harness and a Kwik Wire harness for the cab and chassis.
My old dash had been butchered by the last owner. It had one of those Cadillac Wonder Bar radios direct in the center. This change eliminated the ash tray, heater controls and original radio slot. I really like the ’55 2nd series dash so I looked for about 2 years for a new dash. Found one on E-Bay

Re: My 55 GMC Build

Thanks a lot for the coments. After watching some of the other projects on this site I hope I can measure up - even in the smallest degree.

Question: Know how to sell your truck for $50,000?
Answer: Spend $100,000 building it.

Re: My 55 GMC Build

Thanks for the shove guys. I cannot tell you how many hours I have spent reading and re-reading build threads from Bam, Kim, Chevette and OKGMC has been helping me behind the scenes with answers to many questions. You guys are rock stars.
Now I just have to get started. I'll post photos when I finally do something.
