Re: tailgates

Most of them are for looking at only. Mine(came on the truck) on my '72 is total junk. I can bend it with my hand......no sheeet! If you are planning on actually hauling anything, find a used oem one even if it has some rust on it.

Re: tailgates

You'd think that by now, parts vendors would have gotten the hint that reproduction tailgates have a bad reputation. There are some that say they bought one and it looks and feels like an original, but the vast majority of the posts I read say they are cheaply made and won't fit.

There are lots of truck owners (myself included) that will just keep their dinged up or rusted old ones for now. I'm sure that if someone actually sold a solid, made like original, good fitting and not outrageously priced tailgate, they'd sell them pretty quick...

Re: tailgates

about 10 years ago I had decided to buy a new chevrolet tailgate. Noone had them as Chevy just quit carrying them. I finally found one. The last one the parts place had. It came in in the GM packaging with a light dent on the top edge. The a year later everyone started carrying them for half what mine cost. I was somewhat upset. Reading about the quality, I'm awefully glad I have the one I do. Even if it is still in the box and my truck isn't finished.
