Removing ashtray

Guys,

I'm hoping someone has a solution to remove the ashtray on my '70 C-10. Ashtray slides in/out easily but I want to remove it to clean it. For some odd reason it will not come out of the dashboard. I push down on the metal tab (located in the center rear of the ashtray bin just below the edge on the dash plate) almost to the point I'm afraid its going to break off but it still won't allow it to be removed. Is there something I'm not doing correctly????? Help!

Re: Removing ashtray

Seriously? So you think its just stuck? It is a little rusty. I had to shoot a tiny bit of WD40 along the glides to get it to slide in/out easier.

Re: Removing ashtray

you push down on the center thing that is there for you to put the butt in
if you push it down then pull it out

Yes, push down on the center thing and pull it out.........Ha!

You may have some rust on the tracks I suppose. WD in the RIGHT places should cure that.

Yup! It was a bad design, only comes out normally about a 1/3 of the way during normal use.

Think it changed in 72? Maybe?

Re: Removing ashtray

You probly have the ball bearing type, these can get alittle stuck if not used occasionally. Maybe a little white lithium before you put it back.

So inquiring minds need to know, did you give it the big yank? Did it come out?

Am I the only one who reads these and then wishes I was in the garage with the posters helping them work on thier trucks?

Success! I gave it a couple shots of wd40 last weekend and left it until today. I gave it one good yank and out it came. Thanks to all input. I really appreciate it.

Re: Removing ashtray

Only thing that could go wrong is the top bracket has no screws, and the bottom has one screw inserted from the top, the other from the bottom............Like how I found mine before I removed it.

Re: Removing ashtray

Well now I can sleep tonight knowing that this issue is taken care of, lol. Glad you got it sorted, I know it's always unerving pulling on things if you aren't 100% sure it should come out.
