Red face headlight switch

have 73 gmc 350 v8 5.7l truck. when i replaced the knob rod into the headlight switch, the rod doesn't lock. i know when i took the knob rod out, you have to hold a spring type tab in the back of the switch to release it. it seems like i can't get the knob rod all the way in. Also is the slot for the knob keyed. thanks for any help. frank

Re: headlight switch

Yes, keyed. Has to fit into the dimmer portion so that when you spin the knob, the dash lights dim.

Try pushing the button while inserting?
