68 50th question

I searched here and read many posts, but I still don't know. If you have a 68 pickup, and it was originally gold with a white roof and gold interior, is it an "anniversary" truck. What I am asking is , was the anniversary truck a truck with an option package, or just a paint scheme. I ask because I just got a 68 parts truck that has virtually no options but it was gold over white. The glove box door has been open so long the spid is pretty much unreadable.

Re: 68 50th question

Not 100% sure but I think gold and white was only available on the 50th anniversary.

Re: 68 50th question

The anniversary edition is denoted by the 551 option on interior- ivory and gold or sometimes listed as off white and gold. The dash pad was gold, visors, gold floor covering- either carpet or mat, white door panels, gold seat belts, white seat cover with either gold cloth insert (bench) or white seat gold inserts in vinyl (buckets). The paint should be white roof, gold to lower body line and white again. The 551 option is the best indicator of a anniversary truck and the only one I know of.

Re: 68 50th question

I have seen gold and white 68's that are not 50th anniversary models. Look for the interior pieces LHM mentions.

Would love to see a 50th Bucket seat with original upholstery. My Circus Wagon was originally a 50th Anniversary.

Re: 68 50th question

The "Anniversary Gold" paint scheme with color coordinated interior trim was only available on "Custom" and "CST" models. In other words, the 551 color was not available on base standard models. It was not a special package of equipment. 551 was just 1 out of a dozen or so colors available on Custom's and CST's 1968. So literally thousands of trucks must have been painted this color in 1968 with any combo of engines, transmissions and options the customer ordered.

Re: 68 50th question

I believe the 551 gold paint code was found on a lot of GM products for 68.

Re: 68 50th question

ou have to have the paint, AND the special int, or it's not real.
Also, the custom/CST part isn't true either. My wife and I went out to look at a 50thth a few years ago and it had not package on it, but it was the real deal. 307/3 speed C/10 LWB, and it had the 551 and the 625 (memory is a lottile rough on the second code) buddy bucket seats in gold and off white vinal. It was a beautiful truck.

Re: 68 50th question

Mabey this will help. Notice it says and/or bucket seats. The truck Andy saw was the real deal. A base model with A50 bucket seats and B98 bodyside moulding (fleetside only) would qualify for the 551 paint. and it had to have the parchment interior. There were 3 codes for that. I think they were 625, 626, 627 if memory servers. All are for parchment/gold. one is for cloth insert one for vinyl insert and one for the buckets if memory servers. also, Anniversary Gold was an option on all 1968 Chevy light duty trucks, C/10 - C/30 and on the vans to.
50th Pickups all had Parchment/Gold interior. 50th Suburbans & Panel Trucks had Fawn interior. 50th Vans had Fawn, but the top of the line Sport Van had Parchment/ Gold interior. I've never seen one of those but I would love to.

Re: 68 50th question

I dont get why any company reproduces the gold interior parts. Im not restoring a 50th but I am restoring a Gmc that had the gold interior. I cant find anyone who makes this stuff like the visors, dash pad, armrests and seatbelts.

Re: 68 50th question

I'll have to post pics of my parts truck to see what the consenus is. It doesn't have white lowers but does have a white roof. It really is a stripped looking truck but I'm starting to think it was a 50th. The po stapled a blanket over the seats. Where I peeled it back it looks like it was gold on the outer part. The seating area panels are gone as far as I can tell now. Was there such a thing as a cig lighter delete?
